05/6/2017 13:59 | Been with the current PR company for over 2.5 years and no change in any kind of status, registration payments, lists, etc, etc in that time. Your initial post clearly implied that the IC article was in some way related to recent activity by the PR company or TPG management and this is not the case. In the wild scheme of things it is certainly not important but I just like to clear this sort of thing up. The IC comments were positive because the future prospects of the company look very positive and not because of some plan by management to increase the company's media profile. | pavey ark

05/6/2017 08:07 | They'll certainly have a free hand for various reasons including freedom of the press, editorial freedoms etc. However the population of data they draw from will be bounded by data licencing agreements relating to source data. Also brokers reports will be governed by legal agreements and copyright. Any firm wishing to be covered by the right sections of the press has to be on the right data list. That payment is, I think, done through the financial PR company as opposed to the NOMAD or broker, and it may vary depending on services provided. Which is why you'll find that there are many Main and AIM market companies which never appear in the press listings because they don't pay for it. Data licensing is a good revenue earner in financial services. | septblues
03/6/2017 08:46 | Septblues, I must apologise for that rather "from the hip" response to your detailed and plausible post. I don't necessarily go along with all of your conclusions and I'm making enquiries but I am pretty certain that the editorial staff at IC have a free hand. One thing that is certain is that IC were pushing against an open door here as the share price had reached very silly levels and the prospects for the company were looking better than ever. This may have been very good timing for IC as they like to tell people how well particular tips have done and even with yesterday's share price leap this only puts the TPG share price close to or even less than where it should be at this stage. Looking ahead I consider the most important part of the business to be the engineering unit. If the previous loss of over £1m last year can be reversed there are fairly massive implications for the bottom line and the indications are that things are going well. | pavey ark

02/6/2017 08:05 | 18BT I agree and if you take the IC tips as "food for thought" and then DYOR things can work out. For every seven or eight IC tips I like I discard five or six for various reasons and keep an eye on the other one or two. Septblues your view would seem to be to try and find the most negative comments possible. Whereas I usually admire healthy scepticism I think you have wandered into a darker place. We've had strange posters on here before and it was fun, do you feel that there's a gap to be filled ? | pavey ark
02/6/2017 07:44 | Isn't it about what the company pays for i.e. it doesn't get listed in FT, Telegraph, Evening Standard, Times etc unless it has paid some dues somewhere. IC is an FT publication is it not? Data sets used in stock analysis and indices etc are licensed out from the stock exchange. Therefore a company such as the FT / IC has to pay a sum to access the data and will only access data that comes through those filters before it begins to apply stock selection filters. I sensed a few years back that Corac (TPG) had decided to withdraw from some PR coverage (it used to be in IC) as it went through a rough patch (a bear market discounts all good news) until it had better news to report. It must now have decided to pay its PR company some more to be listed and covered in the right areas. After a positive AGM is a good time to do it. This article in IC is not a chance event but part of a more active PR campaign. And they will be using the IC to target both new insitutional and retail investors. | septblues
02/6/2017 07:36 | Pavey, whilst there are some who think there's a curse of the IC, I think they get more calls right than wrong - though much easier in a bull market. Increasing any coverage of TP is good. It should lead to multiple coverage as they update the tip and there's usually one issue a year where they cover the performance of all their tips. It's also worth trying their podcasts - which are free. These don't cover the tips in detail, but often mention some of the companies involved. Mark Robinson, the journalist which wrote this tip sounds very sensible when he appears on the podcasts. | 18bt
02/6/2017 06:24 | Yes, interesting coverage in today's IC. Moreover, it's one of their main 'tips' | gersemi
01/6/2017 21:06 | 18BT, Thanks for that,I've just read the article and it is very, very positive. I sent a rather sharp email to IC a couple of weeks ago expressing my frustration and surprise that TPG had never had a mention in the magazine and pointing out that they hadn't even mentioned the very large MoD contracts. (just looked the the article again and they're still not mentioned ?) I also pointed out that IC relied too heavily on stock screening software and TPG was disadvantaged in this respect. Anyway, all of this may just be a coincidence and IC have just got their act together all on their own. Obviously the good write up is helpful and in my experience once you are on the IC radar they do update regularly. Much of the article is taken from the Panmure Gordon report and the main point is that Maritime is worth more than TWICE the current EV on its own and that is before you add in the "very promising" other units. Edit: sorry, they do mention the MoD contracts but "in the pipeline" .....hmmmm ? All been said here, more than once, but nice to see in IC,at last. | pavey ark
