17/12/2007 12:39 | yes, it will be interesting to see how this pans out over the coming months as PPI, CPI, GDP, Jobless reports and other macro economic indicators determine how close we really are to recession. Still a great long term investment given the cyclical nature of engineering stocks | aioannou
17/12/2007 10:28 | All the media are talking up a recession in the USA and in the UK. Weak dollar and recession inevitably means Engineering stocks will suffer. This is the lowest price for 5 years, if they fall further I think that long term they must be a good bet, just need to maintain earnings to survive the downturn, cut costs by closing/selling factories. Could be short term costs like redundancy which would affect the profits and could cause losses, never seen losses since Greg Hutchins ousted. There was talk last year that Greg was interested in buying the company but not sure anyone could raise the funding at present so takeover is a longshot. No rush to buy this will sit in the doldrums until the recession fears subside. | iangill
16/12/2007 13:51 | aoiannou - I'm in at £1.79. I agree, as with many a share, sell off well over done. If by any chance falls further, to around the £1.50 mark I will definately pick-up a few more - a real doomsday price. | loganair
14/12/2007 19:32 | is no one following this stock anymore? Bought in today @178, looks a little undervalued imho. As ever, the market factors in the worst case scenario - doom and gloom States-side. | aioannou

08/11/2007 14:27 | bought some this morning at 2.0325,dont like the look of this, wonder if m&ms think a profit warning is due, problem is as i said before the weak doller is bound to have an effect, coupled with weak housing and auto business's will just have to wait and see,at these levels it attracts a first class yield, and may see some institutions gather a few | peter119
07/11/2007 08:54 | Any thoughts Peter? Bought a few at 220, looks like pe of around 12 now. Everything against them, but could have been worse, would have thought a bit more upside from here. | royaloak

02/11/2007 16:34 | peter, agree with your comments, as i said could be shorters closing, think it could still have mileage before the results, but I would not be holding into the results, as you said FD resignation etcetera. | royaloak

27/9/2007 16:46 | peter, thx for feedback on TOMK. Much appreciated. You mention that it would be in my best interest to diversify away from higher risk stocks, ive been looking at ADN. If they fall back tomorrow i may buy in and i have a good feeling about them. Mercifully i am beginning to make some money on prty. Thank God! Cheers chap and good luck. | bogg1e
27/9/2007 16:16 | "BOGGLE" tomkins has a first class managment team, with a sound infastruture, look at the accounts, then look at the charts,i bought in tuesday when the share price had not been so low since 1992 and 1988,wrote into the price,is the fact of a weak doller, coupled together with the housing mkt in the states, and a weakauto's mkt, having said that the company in my view will generate margins well in excess of 300m,good yield with a divi of 5p,but you will see this in the financials, this stock in my view will trade in a range of between 2.15-2.45, i have bought with a view of the share price reaching 2.35 nxt week, then sell but retain my margin as stock,i have been a follower of tomkins since the 80's,and they have shiffted there bussines portfolio from smith & western and armour, into a more friendly lucrative profile, ther was some time ago takeover spec,as you will see the surge in the sp,recent accumalation of holdings as you will see from the rns,it is in my view even though the wk $ and troubles with housing and auto's,that the share price is a triffle low, tomkins are also cutting costs by shiffting its auto sites to other eastern countries, were as we all now production costs are much better,if you dont mind me saying boggle, reduce your portfolio risk which is very high risk, and try and balance your investments,ie blinx, lng, prty, are all very risky stocks, those that chase big kills often get burnt very quick, spread your portfolio to three qtr quality, one qtr high risk.you will benefit in the long run, trust me been about too long | peter119
25/9/2007 15:03 | is anyone on this thread or is it me that just buys quality stock | peter119
