In effect Thomas Cook have been unfair competition to the rest of the travel industry for these last few years. Being able to borrow money on the never never from banks blind to the reality of the balance sheet . Imagine how many other people lost their jobs at other travel companies because of the squeeze from the over funded Thomas Cook. Furthermore imagine the champagne nights out with BOD and Bankers each time another £100 or £200 Million loan deal secured to help fund the bonuses.
Take them all to The Tower .. NOW

The banks could takeover keeping it afloat if the sum of parts is worth more or a turn around plan is possible under a new management...

Count down begins 9am looming for the BOD to realize, reality has finally come home to roost.

The big pity, employees lose , a job, a pension, a share payout...some could lose their homes

I've been surprised how the share hasn't crashed to 1p yet but it could easily halve or more on Monday assuming they don't suspend it at 7am.What all the news corporations are failing to report (as they are just trying to say 200m will rescue them) is that the 200m is firstly just the extra amount that is needed on top of the 900m being discussed, the debt of over one billion pounds that will still be there and how the money is purely to see them through the winter. No new customers will now use Thomas Cook for new bookings after the weekend coverage.I would guess there is near a zero chance of the original backers going through with their rescue and an additional 200m being found. If Thomas Cook were not already doomed due to the way it's been run in the past then this weekends coverage has reduced any new bookings significantly - I bet Thomson have been stacked out.

One has to take a chance hoping its a one off...at the same token gaining popularity in light of Brexit...Govt could just play the middleman broker deal maker...

True enough Diku, but then Sirius and other bankrupt private investors faves would (rightly!) expect the same treatment. Where would it all end??

Could be a good PR exercise for Bojo...give TCG a lifeline for a short term whilst buyers are sought or a deal is done...

They could start by clawing back last years bonus of millions paid to PF. And previous years to that.

@snowlady .. your comments re Atol scheme. Be assured the CAA will tell ALL people who paid with credit cards to claim from their card provider . 100% that is the case and that greatly reduces the amount the Atol scheme has to payout.

John for the love of Mary just filter this helmet guy, and move on with your life. Reporting trolls is waste of time. It is a real worry that 96% of Britains police force are stuck behind computers looking for mean tweets and hurty words while the unwanted imports are left free running around knifing each other willynilly. Proper Brits are terrified shuttling between home and work, and may as well be under curfew seeing how the streets are basically gang warfare zones after sun down.

Looks like it’s game over, no government funding, unless new arrangement can be made with the potential investors

Bear in mind that there are also 1 million passengers who have not yet travelled who are entitled to a refund if Cooks go into administration. So the cost to the CAA is refunds not just repatriation. Yes some may do chargebacks on their credit cards but they are entitled to claim refunds through the atol scheme. If the caa doesn’t have enough money (which is the situation as far as I’m aware) then the government would have to either pay or loan the caa (I don’t know the exact way they would do it but the costs would default to the government)

Barnes4, you have been following what's going on here, right? Share dilution if funding/bailout goes ahead. Just explain to us how that would burn those who are short selling, please.

IMV TCG are dead in the water. The only question is whether this will be a quick end or whether funding will be found....in which case a slow death will follow.

But the brand is irreparably damaged IMV - why would anyone risk paying large sums of money given the risk that the company will go under before they travel.
