Maxed out credit cards ? Are Tesco customers rich enough to have accounts with Barclays? , I wonder how long it will before Barclays starts closing these accounts? "700 million down the drain just like Argos in Sainsburys".Brilliant move by Tesco as it sees its bank customers struggling with Mortgage and the cost of living crisis..

”Mediterranean, Black Sea eastbound Suezmax rates surging on Red Sea turmoil”
Freight rates for Suezmax voyages loading in the Mediterranean and Black Sea and discharging in the Far East are rising significantly due to the shipping disruptions in the Red Sea region, S&P Global reported Thursday.

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, assessed freight on the 135K mt Caspian Pipeline Consortium terminal-Far East route, via the Suez Canal, at a $7.5M lump sum on February 7, its highest level in nearly 10 months, after the rate for the route had averaged a $6.4M lump sum in January.

Shipbrokers have found it difficult to assess the rate for CPC-East Suezmax runs since the start of the Red Sea crisis, but S&P Global said the market was finally confirmed at higher levels after it was reported on February 5 that a 130K mt Libya-Ningbo fixture had been settled at a $6.5M lump sum via the Suez Canal.
The premium for a CPC-East Suezmax voyage is usually $1M over the cost of fixing a Med-East Suezmax voyage, according to S&P Global.

Shipping rates haven't increased. The cost of shipping round South Africa is more than the cost of shipping through the Suez Canal. End of story.

Interesting that TSCO quit banking soon after SBRY announce they want out too - suggests something has happened in the underlying banking model which makes it less attractive

yes, hazl, I do wonder about the 'mid' or current' price, not just on this share. It is often outside the spread and is therefore meaningless. As the gain/loss and %gain/loss are based on this meaningless figure, they too are meaningless.

Barclays expects to pay roughly £600 million for Tesco Bank’s credit cards, unsecured personal loans, deposits and operating systems.

Barclays has agreed to buy the retail banking business of Tesco Bank, including acquiring its 2,800 staff, the companies have announced.

The banking giant expects to pay roughly £600 million for Tesco Bank’s credit cards, unsecured personal loans, deposits and operating systems.

Tesco Bank employees will also transfer to Barclays over time.

As we look to the future, our aim is to be the best provider of financial services in the UK, with this strategic transaction and partnership with Barclays unlocking greater value for customers and for our business

Ken Murphy, Tesco chief executive

Tesco said the “partnership” with Barclays will occur initially for a 10-year period, helping it to reduce debts and focus on its core retail business.

Ken Murphy, Tesco chief executive, said: “Tesco Bank is a strong business that has helped millions of loyal customers to manage their money for more than 25 years.

“As we look to the future, our aim is to be the best provider of financial services in the UK, with this strategic transaction and partnership with Barclays unlocking greater value for customers and for our business.”

CS Venkatakrishnan, Barclays group chief executive, said: “This partnership with Tesco is a further demonstration of the investment we continue to make in our UK consumer business.”

Subperior, from my reading it's about oversupply and therefore lower shipping rates.

Share price of Maersk well down today on the Denmark exchange.

This might be good for Tesco, lower container rates?

Now you go easy on the cans of Newcastle Brown or Special Brew.
