30/8/2022 21:00 | Where does the data come from? Kantar - 30,000 strong demographically representative consumer panel. Nielsen - from the Big Four, Waitrose, Iceland, M&S, Booths, Boots, Superdrug, The Co-operative Group, bargain stores, independent and symbol retailers and petrol forecourts. No methodology is perfect, that’s why smart operators use both types in conjunction with each other. | loganair
30/8/2022 20:25 | Almost all posters seem to only look at the Kantar grocery figures while neglecting Nielsen. Last month Kantar gave Morrison 9.3% market share while Nielsen gave them 8.8% while Kantar gave Aldi 9.1% and Nielsen gave them 10.3%. For some reason Kantar never include M&S which has circa 3.3% grocery market share while Nielsen does. | loganair

30/8/2022 16:13 | Shell boss warns energy crisis will not be limited to just this winter and fuel could be rationed 'for years' - as UK's libraries, community centres and art galleries could become 'warm banks' where Britons can shelter from cold | johnwise

30/8/2022 16:01 | The UK is saying officially grocery prices are rising at around 12% when in actuality they are rising at circa 30%. Up until 2012, ASDA on their web site use to give the inflation rate on groceries sold in their stores. At the time, the official inflation rate in the UK was around 3%, while ASDA was giving their grocery inflation rate at between 12% and 13.6%, depending on the week in question. | loganair

30/8/2022 11:02 | I've just returned from my local Tesco and I couldn't hardly believe my eyes... One product I buy on a regular basis has increased in price by over 100% compared to last week. What was stupid on Tesco's part was they have stocked the same number of items as usual, however none have sold. A second product I buy has increased 40% compared to last week while over the past 1 year has risen in price by 65%. | loganair
28/8/2022 09:48 | UK: "Bring out Your Dead" Nearly three-quarters of state pension will be swallowed up by energy bills next year: Pensioners face 'terrifying' winter as latest price cap predictions suggest annual gas and electricity fees could hit £7,000 | johnwise
27/8/2022 23:41 | Energy bills hell to cost Brits £5 every time they turn oven on to cook Sunday roast Hairy Bikers chef Dave Myers speaks out at 'terribly wrong' cost-of-living shock as rising energy price cap threatens to push bills so high many people won't be able to afford a roast dinner Experts also fear the cost of cooking a Christmas dinner could set you back £10 based on a 5kg turkey. | johnwise
27/8/2022 17:09 | Well Tesco will be creaming it at these prices, but not if shoppers start going elsewhere. I've a feeling their own brand stuff has risen more than they need to keep their margin. I mean inflation 12%, rises 20-25%. GO figure. Also, our Tesco has cut down the amount of selling space - why would you do that if you're paying for that space ? - Maybe they cannot supply enough stock to fill it and that may be due to transport scheduling/capacity or contract supply problems. | yf23_1
27/8/2022 15:31 | yf23 - Exactly what I've been seeing in my local Tesco, prices up 30% on a good number of items over the past couple of weeks and compared to the start of the year a good number of items are up 50%. I've also noticed a reduction in the number of yellow club card offers over the past couple of weeks. I would say at least 25% less than this time last month. | loganair
27/8/2022 14:50 | vaneric1, I think as usual the truth is something in between. It like the 'mortgage rate scare', the majority of folk do not have a loan on their house. As an aside the Bank of England Governor need firing as he should have raised rates long ago. As to inflation, it's economics 1.01. You print more money, you get inflation. | konradpuss |
