19/10/2018 13:01 | I think you're quite disillusioned Logan, I'm 83 I've been poor and hungry, lived through all the era that you have such rose tinted views of, I did a bread round part time at thirteen before bread wrapping became the norm, I've seen bread dropped in the road and put back on the shelf. I also ran a village shop 'open all hours' style for sixteen years so I've seen all aspects of customer behaviour and know what I'm taking about on that subject. The few people who can't afford food are generally not poor they're poor managers, spending their money on all sorts of other tat, if they got their priorities right they'd be well fed. There was no obesity when I was young. | vaneric1
19/10/2018 11:01 | Your mum used have a coal fire and burned all the rubbish logan, the food was handled by all and sundry and hellish expensive compared to today's prices, also very seasonal. Old grannies squeezed every apple and every unwrapped loaf of bread and picked the best, think about it! There was a report recently about traces of human excrement on shopping trolley handles, obviously from the customer's hands, fancy that on your apples etc. ? | vaneric1
19/10/2018 10:17 | Has anyone noticed how Supermarkets are one of the biggest causes of plastic rubbish and are so environmentally unfriendly. When I was young in the early 1970's there were far fewer supermarkets so mum had to do her shopping at the local butchers or greengrocers. A lb of apples from the local greengrocer was put in a paper bag that is easily and totally biodegradable, while buying a lb of apples today from the supermarket comes in a plastic bag. A lb of sausages from the local butcher were wrapped in thick paper, whereas to day from the local supermarket are in a black plastic tray, black plastic can not be recycled, wrapped in clear plastic with a cardboard product detail wrap round. Milk came in easily recycled milk bottles, today come in either plastic bottles or plastic cartons. | loganair

15/10/2018 09:27 | Picking the odd item as a contrast between companies is a nonsense Clive. Your 'Dove and bar soap' example is matched by my friends L'Oriel hair colour, £5.00 in Tesco £7.00 in Wilkinsons. We can all pick such examples at random, next week they'll be gone and another set of differences will appear. | vaneric1

14/10/2018 17:30 | clive, the customer information they get from the Club card would be worth more than the cost of running it !. Tesco are spending a lot on advertising. Full page new paper adverts and contantly on the radio. Money well spent ! I hope so. Regards. | tenapen
