02/10/2018 10:02 | I am pretty sure that Aldi/Lidl will not be retreating after Brexit rather they will continue their expansion. | loganair
02/10/2018 10:00 | Jacks might be well positioned to fill the gap left if AldiLidl retreat after brexit. | nerdlinger
02/10/2018 08:50 | Fair enough Dex but Tesco Bank has already compensated the customers in full for their losses, the regulator, a government institution, has acted against the victim whilst other government institutions, the police and security services, let the criminals get away to do it again elsewhere.. As for taking adequate steps, I doubt anyone, even the IT experts, know yet what that might be in this modern high tech world. | vaneric1

01/10/2018 18:47 | Yes, the fine was indeed rather steep. Typical FCA, go after the small fry such as Tescobank, meanwhile the likes of Barclays, RBS, & Lloyds get away with murder......... | ladeside

01/10/2018 09:07 | What I see with the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury's they are far too top heavy compared to the likes of Aldi and Lidl who are running rings around the so called big four supermarkets. Tesco and Sainsburys need to cut at least 10% off their running cost to be able to compete. They do not seem to be able to come up with any thing new other then putting products on offer, then a couple of weeks later taking them off the offer hoping that their customers will continue to buy the said product at full price. | loganair
01/10/2018 09:02 | hazl28 Sep '18 - 15:41 - 22228 of 22235 I cannot believe the lack of compassion above. Perhaps you wouldn't be grateful if you were expected to eat baked-beans every night. Never been a poor student then?? Used to live on baked beans back in the day. Sure,I know you have always supported yourself,so have I, but we live in different times and anybody can have a run of bad luck. Anybody can always have a run of bad luck - not sure what your "we live in different times" outside of we've never had it so good, and food has never been so varied and abundant! | fangorn2

30/9/2018 16:40 | Tesco to say turnaround nearly done TESCO is expected to cheer investors by raising its interim dividend 73 per cent to 1.73p per share at its results on Wednesday, underlying the strength of its turnaround. | philanderer
30/9/2018 14:13 | Tesco make 3p profit for every 1pound spent at tesco. Theres not really much room for error. Suppliers are getting greedy i think. Using inflation as excuse to charge more for less. Inflation is affecting them but probably not as much as they are reducing their product sizes by. | filmster
30/9/2018 13:57 | van - It is much more so these days then it was before. What seems a deceit to me is how the supermarkets say they are taking the burden by not putting up the prices when in fact due to sizes reducing prices have gone up between 10% and 20% over the past year and yet the supermarkets say they are struggling to make profits and struggling to increase their margins. | loganair
30/9/2018 10:17 | It's just the normal practise Logan, has always been so, if they need to increase the price due to a rise in raw materials or employment costs they need to be subtle or the customers walk away. It isn't necessarily the supermarkets doing it, suppliers do it for the same reason, farmers and milk is a prime example or soft drink makers, their choices are limited and margins are small, costs go up for all sorts of reasons some they absorb but when the business is put at risk it's increase the price, lay off employees or let the business collapse. A friend of mine was a chemist in a food products design lab, he told me that they designed a superb product and launched it to the market as 'New, the latest' it took off and sold well then they steadily reduced the more expensive ingredients until sales dropped off then added the pricey stuff back in again and relaunched it again as 'New the latest'. | vaneric1
29/9/2018 19:06 | As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, fabric softner same price as last year, but 19% less liquid in it = 19% price rise. Washing up liquid same price, but 13% less liquid then last year = 13% price rise. I think this is a con by all the supermarkets. Keeping prices the same the supermarkets say they are taking the hit but by keeping the prices the same and reducing the content the supermarkets are lying to their customers as they are not taking any hit, it is the customer who is taking the hit as they are paying more per unit of quantity. | loganair
