Jp, I didn't intend my reply to be rude. So apologies. My message is simply to say that the short tracker does not tell all of the story. AIM is the Wild West!

Matt Lofgran, CEO of Nostra Terra Oil & Gas (LSE:NTOG) has broken ranks to become one of the first AIM bosses to call out market makers for naked short selling- one of the junior market’s worst-kept secrets. Speaking to Total Market Solutions, Lofgran said he is not willing to co-operate with certain market makers who take short positions in target companies and then seek to close these out through discounted placings.

Lofgran said: ‘If someone wants to base their business model around building up a short position in a company and then closing it out with the company to make a profit then they are free to try that, but I am not interested.’

Naked shorting, which is rumoured to be rife on AIM, sees a market maker sell stock that does not exist in a target firm to retail investors at a higher price until they have built up a large short position. The market maker’s goal is then to close the short by participating in a discounted placing of the target firm and then using the placing stock it receives to settle its open trades, pocketing the difference in the two prices. Such shorts can typically be anywhere between £300,000 and £500,000 in size, although there have been notable occasions when the naked shorts have run into millions.

By targeting firms that are likely to raise money, such trades can be incredibly profitable for the market maker, while the retail investor invariably ends up on the losing side.

I don't short so I haven't the foggiest who would have to declare it nor do I have proof one exists, but been around long enough to spot the telltale signs. If you're going to dabble in the AIM markets it's best not to close your mind to the possibilities.

Who would have to report the short position Duxy himself or the brokerage? Surely the broker isn't hiding info from the FCA.Who is going to report this broker to the FCA?Not sure it's helps our cause to make things up.

That is only for short positions that have been disclosed.Of course it would be a tad illegal to hold a notifiable position and not disclose it. Can't imagine that the FCA would tolerate that sort of mischievous behaviour (cough, cough)

There is no short position on TERN. Check for yourselves. The Short Interest Tracker shows details of all short positions in UK listed companies that have been disclosed under the FCA's Short Selling Regulations. https://shorttracker.co.uk/search/

Hi Johnma, just wondering whether you actually know that there is a 5M short opened on TERN, is that knowledge public if you just know where to look, I obviously don't. Useful to be able to track open short positions in the stock. Thanks

P.s. I am not part of any group, I speak for no one. I am an individual and I speak for me and only me.One of the idiots asked for proof of contract on another stock a little while ago, because like Johnma, he thought I was lying. I posted a photo of it instantly and it tallied up with trades on ADVFN on that day...he had to admit, liking it or not, I didn't lie. It's johnma's turn, let's see who's really lying and making figures up, me or him.I don't lie and I sure as hell don't short.

Milli....you'll find that many sell off and bank profits around this time of year up until the end of March, tucking away in to ISA's in safer FTSE 100 stocksSelling here however seems nothing to do with ISA's or tax ... there is underlying selling from much larger holders and many here deliberately lying whilst selling out slowly..Can't blame an, they are here for the profits and banking it before this really tanks in to single digits again.

We may find today was significant as anyone selling shares in order to pay off a tax bill at the end of January would have up until today to sell to enable funds to reach their account. The drip feed may dry up tomorrow. Also we may get a few T traders taking a punt on news before the 20th February. Hopefully today will have been the bottom and we can move on to new heights. Nai.

Meganxmas, excellent post. I've added modestly to an already significant holding in the last 7 days. The pressure is mounting on those that have shorted this. Enjoying watching them squirm. They've successfully trashed the excellent news of the past 8 weeks. I wonder how comfortable they are in their research. I guess their worst nightmare would be a huge contract, news of continued significant traction from FVR, or a full or partial exit. Just as dreams come true so do nightmares. Tick Tock!
