Need a new boiler and as luck would have it got an email from tep offering boiler installation yesterday. Responded and a chap called Brock rang me within an hour that afternoon. He seemed to know what he was talking about and the price was excellent so confirmed for installation next week. Already had a higher quote from Vaillant who can't install until mid November and another engineer round last week who still hasn't sent his quote. Well done Utility Warehouse!

Thanks Spudders I feel now reassured) no delay that’s good. I was hoping to get a trading update with it but noticed that they don’t do it.

I am hearing good things from distributors that it's the busiest they've been in years

Just tried to find out this from the company directly at least whether there is an intent to issue one but no luck. In fact there is no contact number in the investor relations. There is no future event posted there either. Perhaps all too busy snapping up new customers??

Anybody has any idea when TEP is going to issue the notice of the results in October? Previously they issued it before the 18th October.

This is the differentiator:

TEP has "a 20-year wholesale energy agreement with Germany-based utility supplier E.ON that hedges energy purchases against price volatility. That contract is valid until 2033."

This is what sets it apart from other small energy companies and why the current energy market represents an opportunity.

2 more energy suppliers go to the wall this morning.

TEP survived the 2005 price peaks in gas when Gas prices were double what they are now (In fact built their business during that difficult time). In the wake of that period, the supply agreement was set up with Npower (Now EON) giving the smoothing effect on returns that TEP enjoys now.

The bankruptcy of these smaller companies is hugely advantageous to the TEP business model.

Utility Warehouse now appearing near the top of utility comparison websites

The risk in the price of gas taken on by EON who are the supplier of energy to TEP.

This and the collapse of much of the competition has to be beneficial one feels

Yes I can confirm that, in fact I was at a two day UW leadership event this week and the CEO reported that September was the biggest sales month since 2014 and it's going up. I saw the reported customer numbers yesterday and they were twice August's number and it's only the 8th.

My own business has seen triple the number of customers in September compared to August and more importantly team members are getting more active than ever.

Thank goodness, we really needed this boost and excitement.

I have a friend who is a distributor who says that she has never been so busy signing up new customers from bust gas suppliers.

Can distributors on here confirm same?

bouycat, tks for that, very useful. Do you know if you are required to maintain your shareholding throughout your Telecom Plus contract?

Nice bounce but am now looking at the chart which tells me there may be resistance at £13 so will reconsider my options if we reach there

TP on top of comparison sites as most competative deals.. along with more competitors failing and creating a huge demand for swapping suppliers.. interesting times.

Thought I would get a pretty quick answer judging from previous answers. Never mind I can live off my new found profits from the share surge!

Hi, will be looking at all options. Also an Avro user. What is the % discount I can get as a shreholder? My problem is that I have just done a deal with vodafone for 18 mths as I now have a fibre line coming to my house and its the cheapest broadband per megabits and my upload speed is the same as my download speed by far so would be difficult to do Utility Warehouse at the moment

If you can get multiple service sign ups it makes the customer more sticky.

Incidently, the last time I looked via "MSE's Money Tips" Utility Warehouse were actually quite competitive for dual fuel.

Now an Ex Avro who was paying @ £73/month ..... 😪

A nice video:

Good point. My longer term concern though is there isn't enough growth and most people use comparison web sites and ismybillfair (which is not a price switch but seeks to get a cheaper price from your existing supplier).Nice to have a one stop shop but not too certain the cost benefits and aggravation justify it.Anyway, shorter term this looks more interesting IMO.

I guess the attraction of them that is being made apparent during the crisis is that they may not save people a fortune but they don't end up going bust so can be relied upon.

HiBe interesting if you also used a price comparison site (compare the market etc) for your energy and phone/broadband deals. My guess would be UW is only marginally better (as per their quoted average savings). That's mainly the reason I've not invested here, although reconsidering due to the gas price tailwind and possible increase in customers.

I'm now comparing my Bulb energy bills and my vodaphone broad band package to what utility warehouse has on offer and seeing if it makes sense to got through the hassle of switching to them. I notice they give a discount to shareholders too.

Thanks for the responses. I guess the way they tailor their deals and make them attractive to the displaced consumers will be part of it. As I understand they have about 650,000 existing customers so if they can even pick up 150k of the newly displaced consumers that would be quite a boost to their base.
scooper72

Yes that's right. But I think scooper72 thinks UW could be doing something about steering the displaced customers our way in the first instance. Not sure how that would work, bit it's a fair point. How do you bribe Ofgem?! Or, more sensibly how does Ofgem decide where to shovel diplaced consumers ?
