Four more energy suppliers have gone bust as a result of soaring gas prices, the industry's regulator has announced.

Ofgem said on Tuesday that Omni Energy, MA Energy, Zebra Power and Ampoweruk had all ceased trading.

sad for those businesses but better and better for TEP.

I wouldn't sell yet. Its going to gain a lot of customers and I expect the share price to be back to peak levels fairly soon. The dividend comes on top of that

Anyway, it IS all about sign-ups and new business.

I do not think pushiness or not comes into it. I know a few Utility warehouse distributors and they are friendly, confident people. Post 660 makes out like they are selling timeshares or snake oil or something. Choosing a utility provider is something everyone has to do. It is a non-discretionary part of everyone's spending. Why not save a few quid and make your life simpler with a single bill? For many, it is a compelling offering.

What has changed is that almost overnight a lot of the competition has simply disappeared.

This will mean that TEP, with the help of its army of friendly, confident distributors over the next several years, will increase their market share.

It is inevitable.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't agree that there's no line if sight for head office. As a distributor we all have senior leaders in the distribution network that are close to how their teams sell. Then there's very clear guidelines and training from head office for leaders that emphasize quality and it's those leaders responsibility to ensure their teams behave appropriately.

Head office do weekly leadership meetings with the leaders to get feedback. Plus there's a sales quality team that monitor how sales are taking place, and when there's any suspicion that team investigate thoroughly and even suspend distributors positions if it's proven they acted against company guidelines.

Of course they can't monitor the daily behaviour of all of us distributors, but it's not long before poor behaviour gets noticed and stopped.

So, not sure why you got that info from, but I'd say as a distributor I don't agree with it

yeah i don't know, i've been speaking to a few poeople who have been approached by not so good distributers who are quite pushy - and they do more harm than good. Then I realised that there is no real line of sight for TEP on how good or bad their resellers are - apart from sign ups - that is quite a narrow view. Sign ups are all well and good but if they are pressured to enter into agreements then this is bad. whilst they are making hay while the market is as it is, if there is no control over their distruter behavour (which apparently there isn't), then pushy distributers are allowed to continue - and whist they might look good on paper, if there isn't quality control - then there is a problem. I was trying to figure out why this company hasn't done better.. and maybe thats their achilles heel... or not, who knows. I've sold and i'm out - GLA.

Yup..The world has suddenly opened up for this company.High gas prices have destroyed much of the competition. And they have the hungry, highly motivated distributor network to take full advantage..

In its early years, TEP grew like topsy. But in truth, not so much over the last half dozen years, a situation exacerbated by the proliferation of these badly financed, small start-up energy companies with their loss-leading pricing strategies; A strategy, one should add, that TEP has wisely refused to entertain.

However, with the recent demise of so many of these energy suppliers - (victims of their non-sustainable business models) - the decks are now cleared for TEP to once again have a period of sustained growth.

We shall see.

Need a new boiler and as luck would have it got an email from tep offering boiler installation yesterday. Responded and a chap called Brock rang me within an hour that afternoon. He seemed to know what he was talking about and the price was excellent so confirmed for installation next week. Already had a higher quote from Vaillant who can't install until mid November and another engineer round last week who still hasn't sent his quote. Well done Utility Warehouse!

Just tried to find out this from the company directly at least whether there is an intent to issue one but no luck. In fact there is no contact number in the investor relations. There is no future event posted there either. Perhaps all too busy snapping up new customers??

Anybody has any idea when TEP is going to issue the notice of the results in October? Previously they issued it before the 18th October.

This is the differentiator:

TEP has "a 20-year wholesale energy agreement with Germany-based utility supplier E.ON that hedges energy purchases against price volatility. That contract is valid until 2033."

This is what sets it apart from other small energy companies and why the current energy market represents an opportunity.

2 more energy suppliers go to the wall this morning.

TEP survived the 2005 price peaks in gas when Gas prices were double what they are now (In fact built their business during that difficult time). In the wake of that period, the supply agreement was set up with Npower (Now EON) giving the smoothing effect on returns that TEP enjoys now.

The bankruptcy of these smaller companies is hugely advantageous to the TEP business model.

Utility Warehouse now appearing near the top of utility comparison websites

The risk in the price of gas taken on by EON who are the supplier of energy to TEP.

This and the collapse of much of the competition has to be beneficial one feels

Yes I can confirm that, in fact I was at a two day UW leadership event this week and the CEO reported that September was the biggest sales month since 2014 and it's going up. I saw the reported customer numbers yesterday and they were twice August's number and it's only the 8th.

My own business has seen triple the number of customers in September compared to August and more importantly team members are getting more active than ever.

Thank goodness, we really needed this boost and excitement.

I have a friend who is a distributor who says that she has never been so busy signing up new customers from bust gas suppliers.

Can distributors on here confirm same?

bouycat, tks for that, very useful. Do you know if you are required to maintain your shareholding throughout your Telecom Plus contract?

Nice bounce but am now looking at the chart which tells me there may be resistance at £13 so will reconsider my options if we reach there

TP on top of comparison sites as most competative deals.. along with more competitors failing and creating a huge demand for swapping suppliers.. interesting times.
