Thanks NK. I was there 2 years ago, felt like a port for shopping tourists, that it is, but a little tardy. I will take another look. Rode over the Pyranees on my GS and around Spain which I could be tempted to do again :-)
Any recommended sites for reading would be appreciated.

bozicle. If you are looking to buy in Gib you should be looking at making it your main residence even if you do not live there. You can go out to dinner with the TAX man and agree what you will pay in TAX. There's No IHT. No CGT. Alot of high end UK tax payers already have properties there for the reasons above.

For information, there are plenty of websites you can look at but if I were you I would go and have a look. The place is a long way off what it was 6 years ago with all the new waterfront areas. If I had the money I would buy a place there and even maybe live there. Now there's no way I would have done that 3 years ago.

Wig123. Yes there's not much land for building in Gib. TW were offered the old Navy Hospital by the Gib Gov to turn into apartments and houses but TW have turned it down. They also have a plot of land on the south side I think which they are now looking to sell.

24/06 13:39 - MARKET COMMENT: London Stocks Pare Losses After US Data
1239 GMT [Dow Jones] FTSE 100 -0.6% at 5148.30, paring losses in line with U.S. futures, after U.S. data come in ahead of estimates. Figures show the number of workers filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell by 19,000, versus expectations for a 7,000 fall. Separately, data show demand for U.S. durable good in May fell 1.1%, compared to expectations for a 1.5% fall. "The figures should encourage the more bullish amongst investors, coming in slightly better than expectations, which given this week's poor homes data should come as some relief," says Michael Hewson at CMC Markets. "This in turn could give some pause to the bears, especially in the light of this weekend's forthcoming G20 meeting," he adds.(michele.maatouk@dowjones.com)

Newkid, I'd be interested to pick up on any knowledge you have of the Gib prop market. Friend of mine emigrated and working there as a surveyor for a firm doing newbuilds. He is married to a Spanish girl so makes sense of the location and income t x. Let me know if you could furnish me or point me in the right direction for benefits of investing there, should you have more insight.

Many thanks.

Morning all. I was in Gib last week and went in to Tradewinds to ask how many properties they had left. None. TW do not have 1 new build left to sell in Gib at all. I can understand why TW want to pull out of Spain but I for one do not understand why they would want to pull out of a Gib as well. The housing market in Gib is unique. Property will never fall in value. If you are a builder in Gib you can print money. I know from the results that it looks like prices have fallen but I think it's because the Spainish properties have dragged the whole down as they are both lumped together.

one last point if I may.

Having watched the trading patterns over the last 2 weeks or so it is clear that any retrace is being bought in to and giving opportunity to shorts to close out. Unlike the usual selling in to rises.

This no doubt can be confirmed by recent stock on loan figures.

What you also have to remember is that a lot of funds had to liquidate their holdings in 08/09 , this has caused anomalies across the markets whereby stocks are trading to a massive discount to nav , on occasions even trading lower than their cash at hand!

bloody crazy ;-)

anyways all should be clearer by Monday!

2P, you misinterpret what I am saying.

Outside factors and fears ,the former engineered, the latter unfounded, have caused the severe drops across the hbs.

Land values have not come off anywhere near what was threatened, and what value that has been lost, has been made up by purchases that will appreciate in the future.

It is a matter of perception, and mine obviously differs from yours.

?

Negativity proven wrong when the share price has fallen from £3 to 31p?!

You've got to be having a laugh there surely?

2p, I disagree, the negativity surrounding houseprice falls was totally engineered, and as has transpired been proven to be totally incorrect.

On all other points I agree ;-)
