20/12/2010 15:45 | Fannie Mae Boosts 2011 Economic Outlook On Several Factors Fannie Mae (OTCBB:FNMA) Intraday Stock Chart Today : Monday 20 December 2010 Improved consumer spending and confidence, increased demand for goods and services and a drop in unemployment claims have helped make for a brighter economic outlook next year, according to Fannie Mae (FNMA). Fannie Mae on Monday forecast boosted economic growth of 3.4% for the year, up from its previous outlook of 2.9% growth. The forecast projects improving labor-market conditions soon, despite a "huge" disappointment from the November jobs report, and it also projects the housing recovery "should gain momentum" going into next year, Fannie Mae said. "We expect modest increases in home sales, despite recent interest-rate rises, due in part to modest additional declines in home prices, and we expect people to take advantage of affordability as their employment and income outlook brightens," said Fannie Chief Economist Doug Douncan. Still, Fannie noted that downside risk still lingers, with possible weaker-than-expected employment reports, ongoing economic turmoil in Europe and potential inflation problems in China. | ![]() knowing | |
