23/9/2010 11:36 | Brilliant! Just heard the BBC news about mortgages for last month 'mortgage approvals were down DESPITE THE SUMMER USUALLY BEING A TIME WHEN MORTGAGES INCREASE! I'm not sure if it is appallingly sloppy reporting by some junior that makes things up or a deliberate attempt to destabilise. For anyone that doesn't know the summer is historically a quiet time for mortgages. It goes in this order of seasonal busyness Spring Autumn Winter Summer Always been the same as regular as clockwork but apparently not at the BBC! | barf2

23/9/2010 11:13 | Scars I quite agree.I'm not railing against house price stability I'm railing against the constant commentators that tell us prices are going to crash. The general public are influenced by the headlines and it impacts on their decisions about whether to buy/move etc All the time the likes of the BBC keep banging on about house prices falling[even when they are rising their headline is 'pace of growth slows markedly suggesting price falls']potential house buyers sit on their hands which then causes the slowdown. A stark example would be if the BBC and associated media started putting out headlines such as 'house prices about to surge, buyers scrambling to secure properties before they explode' etc then we would see punters charging into estate agents, banks etc They are a fickle lot, that public. | barf2

23/9/2010 10:53 | Barf, but isn't it a good thing that house prices have been relatively flat for the recent past and probably then near future. They can't keep going up! | ![]() scars
