No new outbreaks in the region in China where it first started. Did every radio station put a positive spin on this? NO. They quickly followed up with worries about a second Wave of the virus as that has, on occasion happened in the past. I give in.

steeplejack,Well said.

TheL&S&T about 6 or 7 weeks ago I was I'll & was in so much pane I couldn't get out of bed for a week,I had a temperature & a bad cough at the time I thought I had been bitten by something because my arms & legs & chest were in so much pain, I have since heard oother people have had similar symptoms going back to November so perhaps this was cv & that many people have had this but not reported it ? I have certainly never experienced any thing like it before & luckily stayed away from anyone for a week.

At the end of the day, this is a small over crowded island with a density per square foot that's crying out for housing.Even the worst projected death rates resulting from this virus will not meaningfully alter that.I would suggest that nations might come out the other side of this catastrophe much more inclined to accelerate house building programmes than before. There will probably be a real commitment to put in place an improved national infrastructure of improved housing, healthcare etc.The house building industry could be in line for a real renaissance. Who will argue (when this virus subsides)against a substantial investment in building affordable housing for nurses, police etc.in anticipation that such a crisis could happen again. The stockmarket is very myopic.

At the risk of being boring....Big leap in the US towards the close. The market was well below the pivotal 2350 on the S&P 500 but recovered strongly in the last ten minutes to climb back into the 'technical analysis' comfort zone.Encouraging but the likelihood is that the US market will fall substantially through that support level at some juncture even if only to fulfil the Goldman Sachs prophecy that the bottom on the S&P 500 will be 2000(15% lower)which would equate to around a bottom of 4250 on the FTSE.

Hi Rescuer. Family lockdown. All had a dose, family through it, I'm part way. Not pleasant but had flu far worse a few years ago (without the chest pains). Our day jobs involve lots of close contact in busy places so was on the cards really.
On the bright side will be back out and about end of next week with fab new immunity.
I genuinely believe there are many thousands sat at home now with it that are putting no strain on the NHS and will be filtering back into working society in the coming weeks.
Hope you are well mate.

As far as special divi is concerned we usually see and equivalent fall ex-divi day. It always comes back but who knows if no divi will just add 10p to the share over the year?

Jug, it will not be 'age' specific... Dividends will be reduced, postponed or altogether cancelled, in my view

Jugs, your purchase today shows you have read the market well and were flexible in your approach to add a much needed injection to your funds at this time. America has come off badly this evening but the sells are not panic sells its just an orderly line of people going to cash. They will be looking for a suitable vehicle to plunge funds into after the smoke clears.
