And interferon beta is produced by fibroblasts of which there are many in the lungs.

Two RNS's are due shortly. One confirming start of home trial and 2nd with the final patient dosing in a hospital setting (if they had a similar rate of recruitment then it should be complete any day).

A reminder about Interferons
Interferons (IFNs) are naturally occurring cytokines possessing a wide range of anti-inflammatory properties. Recombinant forms of IFNβ are widely used as first-line treatment in relapsing forms of MS. The mechanism of action of IFNb is complex, involving effects at multiple levels of cellular function. IFNβ appears to directly increase expression and concentration of anti-inflammatory agents while downregulating the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. IFNβ treatment may reduce the trafficking of inflammatory cells across the BBB and increase nerve growth factor production, leading to a potential increase in neuronal survival and repair. IFNβ can also increase the number of CD56bright natural killer cells in the peripheral blood.

Panorama last night

Professor Tom Wilkinson heads up the drug trial. He told the programme:

“In an ideal world we would see a significant improvement in the health of the patients receiving the drug, a reduction in those requiring intensive care and ventilation. But it is early days to understand that and we will know more when we have the results.”

Finding a drug that works for COVID-19 patients would make a huge difference – it would save lives, reduce the pressure on health services around the world and allow countries to ease lockdown restrictions.

Initial results from the interferon-beta trial are expected by the end of June.

What you say is absolutely correct but...without the irritating arrogance your views may be a little less irksome to read.

There is some circumstantial evidence in asthma and COPD of an effect on viral infections in those patients which are effectively the same as those suffering from Covid 19. That is where the confidence comes from. We wait to see if it is misplaced but as people here know, this conservative scientist is very optimistic!

But it affects lung function as does CV19. SNG are playing this professionally. The double blinded trial will give unquestionable results. If/when they're successful...the order book with be bursting. I've got just over 50K shares and will not part with a single one of them this side of £1.20.

20 mins ago Where is Alfa-2B being used? Will the UK use it?Alfa-2B is being hailed as Cuba's 'wonder drug', and a German businessman wants to use it to treat coronavirus patients in Germany. He said: ""Every human life we can save though Interferon justifies us working to secure an import license for the drug."The drug has since been successfully used in the form of nasal drops in China.Countries like Germany, Italy, and Ireland have shown interest in the drug as a potential aid to beat the virus. At the moment a new drug of a similar name is being trialled at University Hospital Southampton.Developed by UK bio-tech company Synairgen, it uses a different form of the Interferon protein- Interferon beta. Our bodies naturally produce when we get a viral infection. The first set of results from the trial are expected by the end of June.Other than this, there are not many effective treatments for coronavirus. Doctors seem to be relying on patients' immune systems to beat the virus.

I stand to be corrected. What I was trying to say was that Marsden is savvy and imho would not have entertained going onto Panorama unless he could see the bigger picture going forward.

This is not a binary bet. The drug was showing effectiveness in Asthma and COPD patients. There is no reason to suppose that it will not work with Covid 19 patients. Richard Marsden seems savvy and I do not think he would be putting "the cart before the horse" unless he knew that the horse was coming.

A bargain if the trial shows efficacy. Way over priced if not.

I have also added but at a higher price. Timing has never been my strong suit. Spotting the opportunity and sticking with it for the big reward has.

There is also comfort knowing that other companies in the Covid 19 arena have seen their share prices go ballistic on confirmation of orders, tests etc. SNG will be no different on confirmation that SNG001 works. 60p, 70p even 80p will be a distant memory.

The problem is that people somehow think that the shareprice at any one time reflects the value of the company. This is Aim and sadly that is not how it works. There are so many undervalued companies on Aim and particularly in this volatile market you just have to be patient and you will be rewarded. As I keep on saying, close to the trial result the price will be much higher.....

Just IMHO.....
