1,054,500 shares bought back in one day. Nice to see a buyback being taken seriously like that.

I’d say it was more likely to double than half…by the way both unlikely in the near term.

Mind you, it is already and giving me a pretty decent yield now!

Be a fantastic yield if it did. It would be an income pension for me!

This share could easily halve from here to 40p.

Depreciation of the Rand should help recover some of the margins.

Actually the point I was making was that bought back shares which are cancelled as is the case here with SLP are not available for handing out to directors at some point in the future as they are not held in treasury.

Directors in all listed companies award themselves shares all the time.
Sometimes deservedly, many times a bonus for a-not-very-impressive-performance!
Awarding shares and buybacks are 2 separate, mutually exclusive events.
Better to get the shares bought back (and cancelled).
Proportionally, we're better off post buyback.

The SLP bought back shares here are to be cancelled. When that is not the case they can be handed out to directors as future bonuses but not in this case.

I've never seen a successful buy back in this market every one I've seen is cash p'd up the wall, after the by backs the share price falls and the directors then award themselves extra shares as a bonus. Bloody con I reckon

it could get really interesting if the buyback is over a mill.

I'm generally suspicious of buybacks. Buybacks tend to be pro-cyclical (i.e. they occur when the share price is high, which is the wrong time to buy). However, at a PE of 7.5, the price looks cheap, assuming that profits don't go down steeply from here. So on the face of it, it looks like a good move. Time will tell.

One advantage I'd say about SLP in particular is that there is huge geopolitical risk (in addition to commodity price risk, of course). In a sense, the buybacks represent a top-up on our behalf without us having to put down more dough personally.

I hold.

I would be very reluctant to sell my significant holding in this company with the yield likely to be in excess of 10%. I have decided to be a long term shareholder and let me executors sort out selling my shares when the times comes and until then I am going to enjoy the large dividends and let them fund my extended stays in Florida!!!!!LOL.

Oh and by the way .. I think this is a tremendous entry point for new investors. As you say we still need the PGM prices to improve .. that is the key and the doubt atm.

Maybe they could diverse into gold recovery as a hedge !

I agree with you boys .. but I don’t want to have to hold a share for 10 years before realising the profit I’m looking for . Long term imho is for institutional investors .. most private are looking to get in and out. The danger also is that “added” value only equates to the lost dividends they could have been paying alternatively . So it’s all perspective but we are both right 🤨
