I wonder if the current catalogue prices reflects all the discounts that Super Trooper says are available, maybe a knowledgeable philatelist that follows the thread can answer that, now that the thread seems to have lost another expert.

Last one from me . I will leave Jasdan and new chum to turn this into GameStop :-)

I have been a philatelist for about 25 years now . Corona has had zero impact to buy any stamp I wish .
There will be no pent up demand when Corona finally finished. The trade in stamps is subdued has been for some years now .
That will not be changing in the near future .
As I said you can get decent discounts on everything .
Stanley GameStop Gibbons is your only hope .

You realise SGI is a stamp/coin dealer not a fashion retailer . :-)

Now Jasdan
3.3p average purchase price :-)
Delusional I think :-).. you don't remember those heady days of all your purchases well over 10p . Urging us all to follow suit before we missed the boat of 20p /40 p and beyond :-)

I'm just waiting for some sort of announcement of a tie up with one of the bitcoin operators to supply them with rare stamps / coins as collateral to support those trading platforms with actual hard assets. I am also awaiting news of other developments / tie ups / joint ventures with big international auction houses as I believe SG can make great progress here by linking their sales into the big auctions that are going on around the world. Although by market cap SG is a small player, that is a bad metric to use in stamp collecting where they still enjoy a great reputation.
Therefore it is now a case of re-establishing a valuation for the SG operations that reflects their reputation / history etc and trading on that basis.
The marvellously upgraded shop premises at 399 Strand will go a long way in this direction.
It is also about time they brought out more catalogues - presumably the pandemic has seriously interrupted publishing timetables so there should soon be a good flow of new catalogues about to come off the printing presses - again this should also improve the bottom line. I cannot recall many new catalogues coming out in 2020 for example.

The only trouble is jasdan, is that there will be very few foreign visitors in the Strand this year but with pent up demand from locals and wealthy regulars that have missed the personal touch, will I am sure be eager to visit the very impressive store in the Strand once again.

I also believe that with so many people getting used to buying and dealing online they will just turn to using the likes of Zoom for more personal discussions about buying and selling valuables. With so much of the banking being done online these days it is a good job that unlike most retailers, they are not having to worry about having to many shops in locations that are fast becoming ghost towns.

If you look at HRN another Phoenix controlled company they have moved into doing so much business online and away from what was once thought of as essential toy retailers. I am sure SGI will do likewise and in fact they already have digital catalogues available to purchase, which must be helpful to online buyers and sellers, and the more they combine these things the faster online will grow I expect.

Once 399 Strand reopens and trading re-begins I think he'll be eating his words. Or perhaps he'll be stamping on them?

From what I can see it is all set up for a sharp recovery once things start up again.

Superior, you like to misquote. My averaged price on this stock is close to 3.3p

I have never bought over 9p although hopefully once this starts recovering 9p will look cheap again!

How pathetic .
Been here for 4 years you numpty .
Please enlighten us thick people what you saw as you reviewed the accounts ?
Your not a philatelist because I can tell you have zero knowledge of stamps.
As I said Jasdans average purchase price is about 16 p. Has been here for about a year less than me . I shorted by the way many years back at £2.97 .
The value of the brand is about 5 million . Some body already owns that brand .
Clocktower . I have come across you before on other threads , along with Gate side and Gold pig
Boring Rampers

Folks those that are going to buy ?. Be very careful !.. This company is not far off insolvent . A lot of its stock will be tied too Phoenix . SGI owes it 15 million remember . It is loss making. And has been for some years . You can take a nibble at the shares if you like ?.. Anything bigger than a nibble the spread is enormous !
If the market turns South ?. You try and sell them .
There is the possibility that Jasdan is right and the stock does a Game Stop ?
Jasdan has never been right on this thread once . But there is always a first time ?????? .

Stick around Pal. So you can keep a record of how much I make or loose - if your correct Super trooper - I bought a very small amount today at just over 3p for you records.

It was great to see the volume go up so much today, after being in the dump for so long.

I will only be nibbling away as and when I fancy but I will let you know if I buy at less than 2.5p and as I buy up towards 20p - No hurry you will need to latch on here and warn everyone every day, if the thread gets busy Super Trooper.

Good Luck.

The value is in the Brand, the people, and I expect the growth of web sales with new websites - do not be surprised to see some wise folk from the far east buying this out a a big premium - maybe having fun with bitcoins and preferring the underlying security jasdan has suggested SGI stock has.

Some of the coins Baldwins (SGI) have for sale are more expensive than Bitcoins and no-doubt a safer investment - £77,750.00.

Good morning all,

It is interesting to read all you views about what jasdan remarked upon, about underlying security and Bitcoin, which frankly is not why I would invest in this company, no matter how much I thought jasdans views were novel and interesting.

Having reviewed RNS and accounts, and bearing in mind that shops are likely to be open before to long, I think this is one stock that has just been overlooked because I am sure the re-opening will give a huge shot in the arm to SGI.

I shall watch and start buying a few here and there and hopefully will do as well as SHOE has for me recently, being another business that re-opening will make a huge difference too imo.

What a shock it would be if jasdan was right though about SGI and Bitcoin - I think some of you might be eating your words.

Good Luck jasdan.

Certainly getting into bed or forming deals with any of these bitcoin companies could be pretty transformational for SGI and boost turnover through the roof
jasdan

Portfolios of old stamps and coins would make very suitable alternative investments for bitcoin operators and I wouldn’t be surprised if discussions were being held between SGI and some of these companies to assess their demand. Of course one thing SGI can additionally bring to such discussions and negotiations is that all their items can be supplied with certificates authenticating their genuineness. Backed up by Royal Warrant. Who else brings that to the table?

As I understand it . Any bitcoins are few and far between. They are also held by a very few people. Hence the massive upside as people punt on the index level. Also the massive daily percentage swings that creates . As I say the Leftie interviewed on the business news yesterday ( one of Bedriddens central bankers ). Said the dollar will not be replaced by bitcoin . Even thick people like me know that .

50,000 physical bitcoins were created as I understand, hence the frequent press photos of them, any of which could come up for auction at Baldwins

Actually there are physical bitcoins you can get. Just that, like currencies such a the dollar or pound, the vast majority is held as a number in a computer system.

Jasdan . You have a friend .. clocktower :-). As I understand bitcoin? .there are very few of them and those few , the bulk of are owned by a handful of people . Also it's not a physical coin like a groat :-).. you should have seen the interview on the business news today
Interviewing one of the new Lefties who run the central bank . He was asked if bitcoin would take over from the dollar or any other currency of any country ?.. guess what the answer was .
If you pair keep pushing this theory and get others to join you , The share price could go too £26 32 :-).
Although I see slippage today .

Thanks jasdan,
I think you might have something there, and I will sleep on it before investing in SGI once again, although I did ok out of it in the past and I have done well out of HRN which is another Phoenix controlled company, they also turned a dog around with good management.

In additional, I guess we have to look forward to the opening of the shops again, and the Strand shop should be a big winner the day that occurs I guess. So maybe it is undervalued - I shall review the last couple of years Accounts and news this evening.

Not exactly the best of a read but I hope it turns out to be a profitable read.

I will let you know if I invest again jasdan, once I have slept on it as well.

Thanks for your insight though.

If this proves popular, it may be in due course hard to source large amounts of rare coins and stamps, however, SG does have a large inventory laying somewhere in 399 Strand that is laying there gathering dust currently. IF this was all sold at a decent price to the bitcoin operators, - think the price would rocket in a pretty similar way to ARB's.

It certainly makes you think doesn't it?

I hear of investment companies that hold portfolios in the USA of old comics for example - it is the same idea. The comic market is also red hot currently........

The point is that SG has a large inventory which it is doing nothing with, especially during the lockdown, this could revolutionise things.
