Looks as though JPEL may be joining the long list of liquidating Private Equity Trusts, this following CDI, DNE (just starting), HPEQ (finished), LMS, MTH & NRI (almost finished):

The short term factors are BREXIT and wider market levels.

The only major long term potential threat I see is blockchain
transforming the asset management industry, there may be threats as well
as opportunities with this, frankly do not understand the technology
well enough to make an assessment, plus it is in nascent stage still.

State street advisers appear to take this seriously having read a few interviews
and are investing in development.

Read Panmure Gordon & Co's note on STANDARD LIFE, out this morning, by visiting hxxps://www.research-tree.com/company/GB00BVFD7Q58
"The announcement last night that Standard Life’s Indian JV “HDFC Standard Life” is to IPO is not new news but in our view it should lead to a realistic valuation being placed on its 26% shareholding. As previously announced its 26% stake is in the process of being increased to 35% rather than the potential 49% to help liquidity ahead of the float. The price being paid to increase its stake to 35% implies a valuation of its entire stake at c£700m but we believe that this could increase to c£1bn at IPO. In our view this is materially higher than the current implied valuation within the share price and could lead to a bounce as/when the IPO valuation becomes clearer. We maintain our ..."

nicksoj, have to agree, down 27.25% over 1 year and 17% over 6 mts, they seem to have lost their way. The yield of 5.4% doesn't even begin to compensate

There is a view that some life companies have a deal of exposure
to oil sector debt.

What we saw (so far) this morning was a very weak opening on the back
of big losses in the crude price which has since recovered a good %
of the drop - Brent currently off approx 2.7%.

lucky timing investing this years isa allowance last week, now up a grand including the divi. If it wasn't for the >5% yield i'd flog these. Wouldn't know where to put the cash .. fully invested in telecoms which is my favorite sector.
