28/2/2006 16:04 | sipptrader Yes, he said on the radio he was not being paid that sort of money, now if anyone wanted him out, they would only have to prove he was telling lies and he would be history. | jan-mar
28/2/2006 13:32 | jan-mar, do you have any reason not to believe he's being paid 750k? i have a very good reason to believe that is the case. | sipptrader
28/2/2006 12:43 | mattylt what you said was "SCW was earning 750k per year" not, he was earning a small fortune. I'll stick with my view, he is not earning that amount. CR Strode-Gibbons is seen as a bit of a dreamer around these parts, I can't see him being involved in any takeover, certainly not in any position of authority. Strange how the Manager,GB is very complimentary about RL and all he has done for the club, as is SCW and yet people who have never worked for or with either of them have very negative views. SCW Had many offers of work when he decide to leave rugby, one of them was to work with the FA, did you listen to the interview on Five last night, it was well worth it to listen to what SCW had to say. He is not some lightweight ex rugby player who wants to cash in on his rugby fame. He has a history of being involved in sport and at the highest level, and using his business experience, again he was successful. He is more relaxed than anyone about what is going on at the club, to quote him " I don't worry about things I can't control" I do find it amazing how he has come into the firing line from people like Strode-Gibbons, when he has had no influence on the key decisions taken over the last year. | jan-mar
28/2/2006 12:31 | 25k buy at a 3p premium. CR | cockneyrebel
28/2/2006 10:41 | jan-mar, i assure you i'm not. it will be published in the numbers next year so they have nothing to hide. it's common knowledge apparently. i can't reveal my source but can say he is in regular contact with almost every member of the board and some significant characters from the past. SCW is being paid a small fortune to become qualified at which point he will leave. RL is looking to buy a farm and has registered interest with a major agri agent. this is undeniable, i even know how much he's looking to spend!!! | sipptrader
28/2/2006 10:33 | Seems to be a lot of emotional attachement here. "Strode-Gibbons is a dreamer and not involved with the big boys" - he's a dreamer with nearly 10% of the club tho which makes him more than a dreamer imo - at least a big fly in the cream. bid up today so someone's after more - I bet it's not long till some cards are laid on the table and bid talks are announced - has a Man U feel about it with the two Irishmen in the way of the Glazers in a way doesn't it. CR | cockneyrebel
27/2/2006 22:28 | mattylt not his PR man but a firm believer he will do well in football, even more convinced after hearing his Radio Five interview. It's just like business, when people have these firm opinions of have bad someone is, and then you ask them if they have ever spoken to or worked for this person and they say no. Strode-Gibbons has never even spoken to SCW and yet he has so many negative things to say about him. George Burley gets on great with him and has an open mind on what his value to SFC will be. Let them get on with it. As for his 750k salary, he again said it is no where near that figure, he would be finished in football if one of the national papers could prove him wrong, I believe he is not on anything like that. Yes he is openly abrasive, but he won the big prize............... | jan-mar
27/2/2006 17:19 | jan-mar: are you Sir CW's Personal PR man? His past is also littered with people who were mystified by the way he works. He can be openly abrasive, as the English Rubgy authorities know too well. I remain to be convinced that he will have any impact in football at all. I have also heard the £750k/pa rumour- the source I think is the Observer. hard to know the truth unless the accounts choose to disclose the salary of non-directors. If you have any solid data source to refute, I would be delighted to hear it. | mattylt
27/2/2006 16:21 | sipptrader do you know anything about SCW past, it was a toss up between rugby and football, he just choose rugby because of the school he attended. He is a world class coach and will be a huge success in football. The only people that don't want him around are the ones that will be shown up, football is not a complicated game, very simple, it is all the other activities that make the difference to sportsman these days. Fitness, Diet, Discipline, Mental strength and lote more, he had the same reaction from within rugby when he took on the England job, don't underestimate him. | jan-mar
27/2/2006 16:15 | I dont think the club has ever paid anyone that much. Even Le Tiss in his prime never got that much as basic pay. | tuftymatt
27/2/2006 16:05 | Looks possible CR. By the way do you have a holding? A 3-0 win at the weekend should have seen the price rise a couple of pence today IMHO.........lol | tuftymatt
27/2/2006 16:04 | i've had it confirmed, SCW is on £750K per year, apparently more than HR was on and probably more than GB. explains a lot!! the club is doing him a favour by teaching him football and paying him a fortune at the same time. that makes sense!!! | sipptrader
27/2/2006 16:02 | Are we in for a bidding war here if Wilde and Strode-Gibbons are not working together? CR | cockneyrebel
27/2/2006 12:27 | Looks like someone is keen - another 35K buy gone through at a 1p premium. 70p a share to buy the Chairmanship imo. CR | cockneyrebel
24/2/2006 15:14 | My money is on Paul Thompson wanting the Chairmans job. LONDON (AFX) - Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC, the parent company of Southampton Football Club, said that members of the family of major shareholder and director Paul Thompson and companies beneficially owned by them have sold 2,542,737 shares in the company, which represents approximately a 9 pct stake. Southampton added that no notice of a disclosable interest has been received from any purchaser. Paul Thompson continues to hold 156,000 shares in the company directly and remains on the board. At 9.05 am, Southampton Leisure shares were up 3-1/4 at 48-1/2. On Jan 27 the BBC reported that a consortium of seven businessmen were planning a takeover of the club, and cited a spokesman for the consortium saying it is within four weeks of approaching the board with an offer. It said Paul Thompson, the former West Brom chairman, is the biggest single shareholder. However, on Feb 1 the club said it had not received any takeover approach. newsdesk@afxnews.com tc | jan-mar
24/2/2006 15:06 | Hmmm, some of this is too emotionally attached. There will be an RNS by Monday saying who bought. If it's in nominees then someone is trying to hide it imo. CR | cockneyrebel
24/2/2006 15:04 | jan-mar thanks, in that case i agree, leave him where he is, just so long as we get rid of old five yachts we're ok. there's a rumour that RL is looking to buy a farm at the mo. hefty budget as well, i wonder where that money is coming from!!! | sipptrader
24/2/2006 14:59 | sipptrader no it's not true, he's on nothing like that, he gets on great with GB, let him get on with what he is paid to do. Andy He may well end up there, he would want to handle all transfers, in and out...........no what i mean harry !!!!!!!!! | jan-mar
24/2/2006 14:51 | can anybody confirm whether the story about SCW earning 700K pa is accurate? | sipptrader
24/2/2006 14:47 | jan-mar, Well he's welcome back at Bournemouth anytime! | andy
24/2/2006 14:45 | harry will be gone b4 the season is out, i hope he never gets another job in football. | jan-mar
24/2/2006 14:44 | hope he hasnt scored at the wrong end. come on you saints. | bobdown2
24/2/2006 14:39 | CR could only be a saints supporter, the same ones that wanted Harry ( the gambler) Redknapp | jan-mar
24/2/2006 14:36 | Someone just had 35K at 51p so there's keenness out there CR | cockneyrebel |
