Yes, if no bid then I'd expect Mondi to rise and DS Smith to fall back to the 270 - 280 range.

And what will happen to the Mondi share price on a confirmed bid...?.

That may give an opportunity, as with SKG.

Doesn't look like Mr Market is expecting fireworks? Very subdued Market in SMDS.

Mondi Plc has increased its preliminary takeover offer for rival DS Smith Plc as it seeks to create one of the world’s largest packaging companies, people with knowledge of the matter said.
Mondi improved its indicative all-stock proposal several days ago, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information is private. DS Smith still sees that bid as inadequate, the people said.
London-listed DS Smith, which has a market value of about £4.5 billion ($5.7 billion), announced last month it had received an expression of interest from Mondi. Under UK takeover rules, Mondi has until March 7 to announce a firm bid or decide it’s walking away.
Deliberations are ongoing, and there’s no certainty they will result in a transaction. Representatives for Mondi and DS Smith declined to comment.
Packaging companies have been pursuing consolidation as they grapple with the slowdown in demand from online shoppers. A deal would create a leading European containerboard and box producer, worth more than £10 billion based on current market values.

I agree. I'm struggling to imagine a 400p offer. Would be a good result for me though. Given that Mondi already left SMDS stood up in the isle a couple of years ago, this time it needs to happen.

I would think some progress will be made one way or another this week with the SMDS Q3 update due on Wednesday along with the put up or shut up deadline on Thursday.

Ds Smith cannot allow that to happen. They need to find the win win sweet spot

Mondi could walk away like last time. No doubt SMDS would slip if that happens. Hope it doesn't.

I’m looking for 4 but hoping for more. I purchased shares in my isa in the 1990’s and added to them later. This is my largest investment I recall the first price I bought at was £1.39. others cost £2+ and £3. Id be unhappy starting with a 3 and would hope someone else would pitch in.

Myself, given recent share price history, I'd be very surprised if Mondi agree to anything starting with a 4. I would be very happy, but surprised.

I would like to see it go through as long as the nominal price starts with a 4...

Below that I would like them to seek out a white Knight elsewhere

I’m just here to make money and not emotional about it. As long as it goes through……;.

ELSA - interested on your view. As a largish holder what is your wish, deal or no deal? Deal at what price would satisfy you?

#Jeffian, that will be the case IMO too, some colour on the bid in the coming TU would be nice, but most likely wishful thinking.. :o)

The timing is not ideal as I was looking to double down here on 06.04.2024 in the ISA at c280 pence, but IF a bid is accepted it could still work out well to add some, sooner or later more MnA in this space will happen, the economies of scale and taking out a competitor make much sense..

You won't get that, LLB. They'll either agree, or they won't and you'll never know what was on the table unless Mondi "go hostile" and table an offer without the agreement of the SMDS board.

It is a regulatory requirement to disclose all dealings in a company once it is declared to be in takeover/merger talks.

"What to make of the 25 RNSs released Friday afternoon by both Mondi and DS Smith? Looks to me like just about all the major institutional investors have sold their holding in SMDS? I am not experienced in scenarios like this. What do the more experienced shareholders here think about all those RNSs? If there's no bid, Mondi would dump those shares into the market and SMDS share price would be back to 280p or lower before you know it."

Please take a deep breath.
We've been through this already.
Mondi have not been buying.
Institutional investors are making notifications of small changes in their shareholdings. As I explained one was for 13,000 shares, another 30,000 shares etc. Nobody has sold all of their shares or even close to. Click on the name of any of the shareholders. Scroll through the RNS's and compare their recent shareholding notification to the previous time that they noticed et voila you can see if they have bought or sold. In almost all instances it is for a very small amount of their total shareholding.

My thinking was 370 first bid.

400 2nd bid..
