Just read your post DR... I'd like to think that Owena are in a stronger position now than before the fire...but I'm a bit concerned that, being the 55% Majority Joint Owner of the Ororo Field....were they totally unaware what GP were upto? ...would GP require Owena's permission?.. What exactly did Owena know with respect to the re-entry attempt? ..are they complicit?

Sounds like a last desperate attempt to get oil flowing. Pretend that the licence is still valid. Bring in a new technical advisory partner. Deployed the wrong type of rig. Drilled deep into O1 which Chevron had plugged. Even less safe after 30 years. Blow-out and fire.

Imo a good chance that Owena will recover the licence, with Sirius remaining as consultants/stakeholders. Pretty sure that their intention was to run down the licence so that GP would be stripped of operator status.

I have to go along with 5er on this one..

'You don't expect Nigerians to keep their word do you ffs?'

(from the January article)

'DPR indeed claims that Guarantee did not actually obtain a permit for re-entry, dismissing the claims of Guarantee Petroleum, that it engaged with DPR personnel before it deployed the equipment'.

Bron...agreed...but it does give an insight into the Nigerian mindset.... this is what we're up against and have to overcome.... one step forward, two steps back.

The report suggests that Chevron should be sanctioned for this situation, but it has nothing to do with Chevron, as I understand that the DPR took ownership of the Ororo fire and undertook to hire in experts to put it out.

Htrocka.it's pathetic,in this day and age the technology is available to have dealt with this fire promptly and in the great scheme probably not too expensive.Ultimately Guarantee are responsible and should not be allowed any involvement with the oil and gas industry going forward. When the Nigerian authorities say that they want to reduce flaring it's obviously purely about the loss of gas revenues and not protecting the environement and the people affected by these disasters.

It's a fact of life in Africa that everything is at snails pace. It's just bizarre that legislation that will increase investment and ultimately improve the lives of the Nigerian people has taken so long and still has no end in sight. The opportunity in Nigeria is huge and it's only business men like aliko Dangote that although putting business first he also is aware that his success can pass on to the Nigerian people ,creating jobs and better conditions for all.He is not alone as there are others of his ilk, the fault lies at the feet of government and the decision maker.

'Thanks guys at least there is still humour'

How about this one for a laugh?

ps.
I tried to cut and paste a Nigerian article currently discussing the PIB outcome...but it got pulled, however, I remember a couple of points. (a) The IOC's, who have slowly been pulling out of Nigeria, are not holding their breath or expect the PIB to be of any benefit to them. (b) Twenty years ago, when the PIB was first proposed the largest companies in Nigeria were International (IOC) Oil companies...today....it's supermarkets.
