I must say though Markth that I wish I had opened the IG index account that you recommended. I would have gone long (as I mentioned yesterday) and then wet myself with the excitement this pm.

All the best trades involve looking in the rear view mirror. I just didn't like the soft US opening, nor the way in which AZN was plunging over here.

Like they say, 99% of what happens out there is "not for you". Better to be safe than sorry. This one only cost me £275. I'll live to fight another day.

Markth you bottled too soon as you probably know. Long tomorrow? I think that you'll recoup what you lost today.

I'm out - for a small loss. US pharma down more than the market.

Ah I'm just looking to scalp a few points intraday, the spread was favourable when I took the bet; I could have closed some of it at lunchtime but decided to hold on till the US wakes up. I think it could trade up later this afternoon if the momentum buying of Merck and Pfizer late yesterday evening is sustained.

Good Luck Markth,

This chart is quite reminiscent of the Roberts merger in Aug 1999. Prices seem more or less identical with the company going through the same sort of restructuring and worries about pipeline products. From 700 the price rocketed to 1300 in a short space of time. It won't be the same since that was the boom before bust time but the signs are good for a sustained move north.

I use spreadbets mainly with IGIndex these days. They do cables and commodities too, plus I like to dabble in the Sports Book (as happened yesterday with Clyde beating Celtic; yahoo!!)

Here's a link if you are new to it.

Hi Markth Who do you use to effect your shorts. I've never done this and have been looking at Hargreaves Lansdown CFD's. Any advice greatly received.

I called this long before Christmas and there has been some good money made but (alas) not by me as I had no collateral. Still very long indeed on Corus and doing great.

There may be a retrace soon which will give another entry point; if I catch it I'll go short but if not I'll just go long again.

Good Morning Powerbooks Hope that you're not still short. This will go down tomorrow but the trend is North. Unless of course there is a disaster with the Barr and Impex cases. I do however believe that some deal will be struck before the due date.

Based on the movement the last few days, plus the newsflow about Pfizer, plus the general Santa Claus effect, I think this will break out upwards soon. It's time to be long but I have no funds :0(
