May be talking to myself here, but tucked a few away in my ISA for the long-term. I like market-leading 'green' companies with future growth driven by legislation, such as SKS and HYD. The chunky dividend, is a bonus, while I wait for the long-term story to unfold.

Lengthy and very positive article in Shares Mag re : Shanks. Says they are set to 'clean up' with regard to Waste Disposal. Says company is set to benefit in a major way from EU Directive against Landfill sites, and that legislation will force authorities towards 'green' waste disposal instead. Seems Shanks timed their disposal of the landfill operation perfectly.

I have sold out as well, can't see much upside - the city don't seem impressed with the latest results and landfill asset sale. Time to move on methinks.

Sounds like rather tortuous logic to me. I would at least wait until the shareholders circular arrives.

Can't see much downside from here.

It looks like a sell to me. I read in some book if a share drops sharply, sell if there is no rally in next few days. I have therefore done so, but it was painful. End of an era with the Waste assets gone so I'm off to find something more interesting to trade. Good luck all.

Today's fall surprised me, too.

The potential liabilitiy is not new. It was included in the interim report.

Shanks has been a takeover candidate for some time and rumours increased recently. Is it possible that leveraged long positions are being closed, triggering other stop loss selling?

Especially with the debt dramatically reduced, an offer for the remainder is possible (trying to console myself, lol).

If this potential liability was the cause for the drop I can't believe it was not mentioned in any of the news commentary.

Thanks FTreader, well spotted! With hindsight I should have sold at a profit but seems to be support at 117p. I am now breaking even, don't hold all that many so not too worried!

noticed at end of results note 13 that co has potential 25m liability for mineral rights. Cheers guys, that's why results were delivered overnight then? Thought they'd slip that one in without anyone noticing. now 117p...

Still does not explain fall from yesterday's 130p, surely 225m is better than 200m? Was market expecting more? Or were results below expectations? Still puzzled.

FTreader -

Good point about the debt, thx for pointing out about results - I was a bit baffled and was waiting for results today after checking the mail on sunday.

Still happy to hold, not much doing on the markets of late - I am happy to hold defensives and cash and a few shorts.

Looks like the market is not impressed by the price shanks is selling the landfill for and was hoping for a bidding war.

This is probably a over-reaction I think.

Strange why there was no markdown yesterday on results? Maybe the market feels the deal won't go through?

I am pretty confused.

Anyone have any ideas?

Must admit I'm surprised by the market's muted reaction to this news.

On the face of it, either it believes that the remaining part of the business is worth just £77m, or it believes that there is a high risk that the deal won't go through.

Does anyone know whether a tax liability arises on the deal?

Obviously everyone's spending too long on their calculators working out how SKS got such a good deal, and not enough time actually BUYING them....

market cap of about £300m based on high probability sale of assets at £200m, now confirmed sale at £227.5m should put market cap at 330? 350?.

shares should be trading at 145p tomorrow
