They went ex div 15 dec (pay 6 apr 05) for 18.21p
I'm surprised they haven't fallen further. Given that the dividend cover is only just over 1 they seem overpriced.

Time to short or take profits if long. Higher costs will take up the spare cash and capex depreciation will take the extra revenue. Soon to be downgradded to hold from buy. Get out and then short - price target £9 again and then lower.

Although I have sold SVT, I still believe they are one o the best plays in the utility sector, so donne read too much in this;

Broker Upgrades/Downgrades:

Is the defensive utility sector becoming more risky? We think it probably is. Consolidation talk has kept share prices the UK utility sector buoyant for some time, but some brokers have now got concerns on valuations. UBS became the latest broker to change its stance on sector constituents, downgrading its rating on National Grid Transco to "neutral" from "buy" and its stance on United Utilities to "reduce" from "neutral." Also, CAI Cheuvreux downgraded its UK water sector stance to "sell." National Grid shares lost 0.5p to 480.5p, with United Utilities stock off 8.5p to 573p.

DKW reviews water sector outlooks

After the utility sector euphoria of recent days, sparked by the extravagant bid for South Staffordshore, Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, in a note on the sector, has brought things back into perspective by cutting it recommendation for UK water group AWG to "hold" and peers, Severn Trent and Pennon to "reduce".

In a note to clients, the broker said the moves are a valuation call as after the sector's 10 pct outperformance since August, it 'struggles to see significant upside potential'.

However, the broker added it has kept its "add" rating on Northumbrian Water as it believes it is the most likely takeover target.

Broker Upgrades/Downgrades:

The UK water sector has outperformed the market as a whole by 20% in the ear to date on consolidation speculation and because of its defensive nature. Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein took a look at the sector and has made a numbers of downgrades on valuation. The broker cut its stance on AWG (down 2p to 728p) to "hold" from "add," increasing its target on the shares to 720p from 660p. It view on Pennon (down 5.5p to 920.5p) shares was cut to "reduce" from "add," with its target increased to 870p from 840p. Severn Trent (down 10.5p to 915.5p) had its rating cut to "reduce" from "hold," with the broker's price target on the shares increased to 870p from 840p. The rating on United Utilities (down 2.5p to 574p) shares was maintained as a "hold," but the broker increased its price target on the shares to 550p from 535p. The broker's rating on Kelda (up 4p to 559.5p) shares was also maintained a "hold," with the target price increased to 550p from 530p. Finally, its stance on Northumbrian Water (up 2p to 150.75p) was kept as an "add," but the target on the shares was increased to 160p from 153p.
