He's right. Geraniums are small hardy perennials. What we call geraniums are in fact Zonal Pelargoniums.. Not to be confused with Regal Pelargoniums..

They are outside continuously but are sheltered by the front of the house in the winter (and some bin bags when it snowed!)
Last year's lot were knocked out by the snow having survived the previous winter, but I didn't bin bag last year's lot.
