RULE 33 - Equipment for sound signalsA vessel of 12 metres or more in length shall be provided with a whistle and a bell and a vessel of 100 metres or more in length shall in addition be provided with a gong, the tone and sound of which cannot be confused with that of the bell. The whistle, bell and gong shall comply with the specifications in Annex III to these Regulations. The bell or gong or both may be replaced by other equipment having the same respective sound characteristics, provided that manual sounding of the required signals shall always be possible.A vessel of less than 12 metres in length shall not be obliged to carry the sound signalling appliances prescribed in paragraph (a) of this Rule but if she does not, she shall be provided with some other means of making an efficient sound signal.

FB I once had to study for a port pilots exemption licence which has a blank chart exam. You are given a chart with nothing on except the coast/estuary outline and then have to add all the navigational information, bouys, marks, light characteristics, depths and the courses between them in and out from memory. You are expected to be able to navigate the approaches to the harbour with only a stop watch, compass depth sounder and the info in your head.

I bought some JSE instead. I don't think I'll lose sleep over that one.. It's very much similar to RRE and SQZ but doesn't have any UKCS risk. Maybe a slower burn but the guys are ex Talisman so they know how to play the game.
