Shore Capital: Serco maintains momentum

Outsourcing giant Serco (SRP) has upgraded guidance on the back of new contract wins and an acquisition, reaffirming broker Shore Capital’s faith in the company’s continuing momentum.

Analyst Robin Speakman retained his ‘buy’ recommendation on the stock, which closed up 1.7%, or 2.4p, at 144p on Tuesday. The company announced two contract wins with the UK government and the completion of the acquisition of Whitney, Bradley & Brown, bolstering its US defence services business.

Speakman said that left Serco shares trading on about 14 times earnings for its 2021 financial year.

‘With contract success and with the acquisitions, we expect modest earnings growth in full year 2022 as the effects of the pandemic begin to unwind towards normalised trading,’ he said.

The analyst also expects dividend flows ‘to strengthen’ – the company has a dividend yield of 1.6% at present.

‘We see momentum in Serco at an underlying level…and the prospect of further positive news leveraging a now solid balance sheet,’ he said.

The funding news re COVID testing (£8billion to be spent on testing) announced by the government over the bank holiday weekend is good news for SRP.

The testing stocks have all taken off today. We will see secondary follow through soon as implementors of that test and trace strategy.

They are going to be kept busy chasing those variants with test and trace.

Take a look at the last results... And during a pandemic as well...everything surging.

A well-respected management team are turning things around here.

The results last week were way ahead of expectations and totally belie the negative sentiment that has surrounded this for a decade or so.

That sentiment will change.

Those recently invested here are in on the ground floor of a significant recovery story.

8.75p EPS forecast for 2021 and 10p for 2022.Looks cheap.Maybe the market thinks government will be reducing spending and contracts for outsources to save money?

It is of course undervalued.

Looking at the chart it should move up and break through £1.60
