Interesting re Duntanlich, thanks for that. Surprised to read Foss only started in 1985. I was sure that huge blot on the landscape was there in the late 70s - at least the early 80s - when we used to motor up the old A9 in the summers to Inverness-shire.

Actually, the Duntanlich mine appears quite small compared to the size of mineral deposit

I just thought why I was confused. I worked on something called the 'Grampian Project' working on the Dalradian, but all the work I did was up the east end!

I noticed a massive mine is opening up between Pitlochry and Aberfeldy. The Duntanlich Mine

The mineral deposit is huge, like world class, I believe it's in the top 5 globally for Barite.

As that has got permission, I can't see any problem ScotGold mining anywhere in the future particularly if they come across rare earths, needed in this electrical age!

If ScotGold start using Hydro or renewables, plant some trees now to hide the future mines, get read of the Deer and they will have my support all the way!

Seriously tree planting now (in advance of planning) would be good around future mine sites, particularly along access routes. One of the major problems Duntanlich Mine had was gaining access so that the mine road was not visible from surrounding view points. The best option (financially) would have been to come up from the north, but because it could be seen from Queen’s View overlooking Loch Tummel, they had to come in the expensive longer route from the south. You can see the new entrance just after you turn of the A9 for Aberfeldy. In fact the previous owners put in a temporary track from the North on special expensive matting so that it did not damage the peat, they used it for the trial adit access but also to try and convince planners it would be OK on the visibility front, it obviously did not work in terms of becoming the main route in.

"The Grampian range extends southwest to northeast between the Highland Boundary Fault and the Great Glen, occupying almost half of the land area of Scotland and including the Cairngorms and the Lochaber hills"

For some reason I always think of the Grampians as East of the A9

More geographical than geological.

where has this “Grampian Terrane” come from I thought it was the Dalradian, or is it a different geology?

Hi all,

Any news on the Hydro scheme. Could the mine become carbon neutral?

Major funds are going big into sustainability, SGZ could lead the way in Gold mining, maybe they could become advisors for the big miners!

See this announcement from Larry Fink CEO BlackRock today ($7tn funds). I know other bigger funds are going down the same route. Watch from 2 min 56 secs in.

Sustainability will play a major part in Davos.

So, the Sirius Minerals lesson is: don't get too committed to UK resource stocks. Even if the mooted takeover deal goes through it will mean huge losses for most retail shareholders.

And if/when Scotgold get into trouble, there probably won't be an Anglo American riding to the rescue for such a small resource.

Don't bet more than you can afford to lose.…especially given the hapless CEO's track record of missed targets.

“Looks like turkeys are being asked to vote for Xmas. Surely NLR and associates are looking to grab the asset/security at the first opportunity? That's assuming the bank agrees to an extension - which they haven't yet done so they could theoretically foreclose on Monday.Even assuming that the bank plays ball and the NLR deal is voted through, how can SGZ raise funds for any sort of production when Marketco already have an option on 100% of the production? What's left to base an offtake deal on?And where's the new feasibility study? How can they be forecasting production from this month? Why no comment or discussion today? Is it shock?” (6/27/2014)

MarketCo have an option to purchase approx.25% of our production

Why do you always get it wrong Old Chap
