I know you will all laugh but I expect to see this at 196 …certain numbers are starting to shout at me..if and if Ocado gets bid for this will collapse

No it won't it would shoot up - as when Asda and Morrisons were bid for - due to less bid targets likely to be remain in the sector and Sainsbury's itself becoming more of a bid target.

The biggest problem companies have is how their directors almost never take personal responsibility of any poor or bad decisions they make or hold themselves accountable for something that was in their power, control and management.

If the CEO of Sainsbury's makes a huge gaff and has to resign because of this gaff Sainsbury's will give him a huge severance pay, massive top up to his pension pot then he'll join another supermarket chain as their CEO and continue his poor management of the next supermarket he joins.

Yes that was my understanding prior to the recent run up in the share price, however their prospects must have improved to account for the doubling in the share price in the last 3 months. I haven't been following closely and admittedly their share price has been all over the place longer term!

Ocado market share hasn't changed for 18 months, they've never made a profit and not likely to for the foreseeable future and yet they have a higher market cap than Sainsbury's.

Ocado have had a tremendous run recently, I wonder if their market share is increasing at the expense of the more established supermarkets?
Mks of course benefits from Ocado's success and their shares have been having a very good run as well.

It seems to me all Sainsbury's senior management can do, can come up with is to cut the quality of goods and services they're offering to their customers to try and maintain their market share.

Has anybody noticed how McVities Jaffa Cakes (The Original) has 50% less orange Jaffa on top then they did even just 2 years ago, so they're definitely not (The Original) and are therefore on the box McVities are misrepresenting the product.

J Sainsbury:

Grocery business J Sainsbury is the third-most shorted FTSE 100 share at the moment, with short interest sitting at 3.2%.

Some investors love supermarkets. We all need to eat, and we need to do it all the time. This gives food retailers exceptional revenues visibility during good times and bad.

The trouble is that high competition means these companies operate on wafer-thin profit margins. So their ability to grow profits is massively weakened, especially when costs head through the roof. J Sainsbury’s underlying operating margin (excluding fuel) slumped to 2.99% in the year to March.

The problem for Sainsbury’s is that it’s losing share to discounters Aldi and Lidl and to middle-ground rivals like Tesco. So its only weapon is to keep slashing prices to keep attracting customers, putting earnings on the back foot........INNOVATIVE thinking is what Sainsbury's needs from its directors and not just slashing prices to try and maintain market share which only leads to falling margins and falling profits...

As the value chains expand their store estates the problem is likely to worsen. Until the company concocts a better plan to take on the competition I’ll continue to avoid it at all costs.

When it comes to Sainsbury's where is the INNOVATIVE thinking in terms of company management as all they seem to do is follow the other supermarkets and just lower prices to protect market share.

I've never understood why in the UK, retailers often charge far more for their products then in other countries yet make far less profit.

Just look at Sainsbury's, even in nominal terms their profits haven't risen for the past 15 years, while in real terms profits have fallen by at least 50% and yet the media keep slamming them for making excess profits.

M&S are even worse since the 1990's in real terms their profits have fallen by circa 90%.

Ocado shares rocketed as high as 960.4p today, a 24.5% rise for the FTSE 100’s most volatile stock.

Can you believe it??? Ocado, a company that has never made a single penny in profit and is unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future, gained £1 billion in market cap today.

They only have to put in a bid if they get up to 30% or higher, at that level it becomes mandatory. Below that they have to notify crossing percentage boundaries from their existing level although there can be a time lag between that and the rns notification.
