I noted a 'Holdings' announcement this morning showing that AXA had reduced their holding from over 13% to under 10%. That could have been behind the recent share price action?

"falling poo"?

Well it would certainly have some effect!

bought a few and some BPI.

falling poo must impact raw material costs and energy use so expect to see improved eps in the medium term.

The 2 holdings in my online a/c - the old/doubled shares and fully paid rights shares (with oddly different share price as detailed in my previous post) have been merged inro one holding in the last hour.
..and now 5.275 2.43% up on day.

Good take-up of the Rights Issue (98%). Should be onwards and upwards from here.

If my sums are correct we`re right back to where we were on the morning of 27th november when the rights issue was announced which was 580p

3 x 580p = 1740p + 320p = 2060p / 4 = 515p

... which is where we are tonight.

Yes a belated Happy New Year to you Philanderer. :-)
Mine are showing online as there now, new 'fully paid at 5.08, but oddly shows original o/s as 5.155.
I thought difference could be the 5p div due on original shares, but that would make difference bigger not smaller.
Any explanation?
I'm assuming the 2 lines of holding will be merged as they are now the same - o/s f.p.

The board believes that as a result of the acquisition RPC will benefit from greater product variation, a broadened customer base and an enlarged platform to generate efficiency saving that together will create long-term share value. (If nothing else take out a competitor)

That's true. It's a question of what prospects you see going forward. If they go back to 600, do you enjoy the further gain on your 320 Rights, or do you scrabble around trying to buy back in at 500+?

On my sums - in earlier post, on sale of rights, difference is about £3.20 to full price - no difference to 'call', you receive the value of those rights.
In comparison to say taking up say a fixed price offer which has a higher (Oinstant) market value.
Yes, rights have value, but there is no instant gain/loss based on take up or not - I believe ;-)

"...given that the rights issue has no intrinsic value for existing shareholders..."

Er, yes it does. If you don't take up your Rights, they will be sold in the market and you will receive whatever cash is achieved for your entitlement (currently 175p/new share).

Obviously, it depends on personal circumstances and I can understand those who are 'fully exposed' taking the cash. I wanted to increase my exposure and it seems to me a good opportunity not only to lock in the 'profit' on my Rights shares but also see good growth on that as I fully expect the shares to recover once the new Issue is behind us. Most of my shares were acquired at 143-175. I did buy a load more cum-Rights at 583 and, in the short term, that's not looking too clever as I could have bought the equivalent cheaper in the market now, but who's to know at the time? Anyway, I've taken up all my Rights and expect it to be a good long-term investment.

To be fair, given that the rights issue has no intrinsic value for existing shareholders, it is reasonable that a percentage will sell and cause a market distortion - especially at this quiet time of year, stock wise, where other sales ain't happening,so traders aren't looking for buy opportunities.
So not in my eyes manipulation but normal market, but you are right to ignore the issue, and buy what is best for your portfolio and not be dictated by a company when you put funds in.
..oh and your decision means you have manipulated the market ;-)
Personally I have below quota for rpc but above quota for sector, but other good prospective co's I'm not already in are thin on ground, so acceded to cash call.

Decided to leave the rights well alone. Have enough exposure to this share which let's face it his been manipulated down by over 10% in just a couple of trading days.

Will watch with interest to see where they want it to go next ;-)

Have bought a few, unfortunately missed the rights issue, but you never know IMO who might be selling the nil paid rights in the market ahead of Dec y/e....personally think this is an astute deal and management have done well to date IMO....so happy to continue buying below the TERP from the date of the deal for the long term...
