‘It’s terrible — the Brits were lied to’: Americans give their verdict on Brexit

Todd Peterson said Brits were lied to “about the whole idea that Brexit was supposed to be this wonderful thing — the whole idea about the payments to health care — none of them were true. It’s hard to tell (how it will play out).”

Since you do not appear to understand that negotiation time is dictated by complexity neither do you..;)

PS even though I agree the length of time taken to negotiate in this case without anything to show for it is a very poor show indeed...my explicit stance for some time now...;)

I still think Norway+ would be the ideal solution for those who want the best of all worlds.

The numbers will be tight, but TM may still squeak her existing deal through in yet another vote on it next week.

Rees Mogg seems to be resigned to the fact that he either has to vote for her deal or lose Brexit.

The HoC have voted against the UK ever leaving the EU without a deal.

That motion does not yet have the force of law, but the relevant Act can be amended by Statutory Instrument.

TM's cunning plan was to support a motion delaying a no deal departure by a few weeks, however that motion was amended by a majority to replace a few weeks with forever and a day.

The ERG's Malthouse plan was dead on arrival.

Tomorrow the HoC votes on the issue of seeking an extension. More of the same I suspect.

TM did suggest after the vote that the options were her deal, no Brexit or a second referendum.

What is clear is that the ERG have little support in the HoC.

What would you think if someone borrowed some houses owned by you and your neighbours from the mortgagees and immediately sold them on the market ?. Sent out a circular saying there was a possibility of a motorway going through the area. With the glut of houses for sale, prices would crash and other owners would then get theirs on the market super quick to try and sell before the prices went even lower. What was once a respectable area is now a not so vibrant area. The ‘someone’ then buys the houses back at the lower prices and gives them back to the mortgagees. Job done and pocketed a good wedge and you still have your house - albeit a lot less in value. The ‘someone’ has pocketed a good sum but at yours and the other owners’ expense. Is this legal ??. No - of course it is not as this would be a ludicrous situation. It is however legal to do it with your stocks.
The AIM is less liquid than the main markets and is a breeding ground for this practice.

I agree largeronald.

I mentioned the border issue because the Malthouse agreement is up for vote this evening. That is the agreement between both wings of the Tory party to avoid a back stop by agreeing to implement max fac at some future date. In the meantime Northern Ireland remains nominally in the customs union.

The spivs and conmen in the ERG assure us that it (the technology) does.

What's really incredible is how the antediluvian bigots in the hat 'n' sash brigade are on the one hand opposed to any border, because they're petrified it will lead to the reunification of Ireland (it will), and yet rant and rave against any customs union.

You couldn't make it up.

When did something that Philip Hammond says become fact?

It is a great shame that no-one warned David Cameron about the likely impact of a leave vote on Northern Ireland before he agreed to the referendum.

The peace agreement in Ireland included a clear promise that there would be no border controls in any shape or form between the North and the South. Given both were in the EU, none was necessary. It was therefore any easy promise to make to restore peace in Northern Ireland after decades of bloodshed.

In fact I am not sure that the border was ever mentioned during the campaign ahead of the vote.

The ERG may think "max fac" is the way to defuse this ticking time bomb, but the problem is that no technology exists to implement it.

That's EXACTLY what the great british public voted for. Apparently 38% of brexiteers believe losing your job is an acceptable price to pay for getting those filthy foreigners out.

Oh - wait a minute...

"Higher unemployment; lower wages; higher prices in the shops. That is not what the British people voted for in June 2016,".

From what i recall there were approaching just under 16m who voted remain...those views must not be overlooked...hopefully we remain in EU !

A softer BREXIT looks possible in my view or perhaps another referendum or even a general election !
