In fact, Jefferies has moved its recommendation on stock in the former to ‘buy’ from ‘hold’ and reckons the shares are worth 306p each (current price 265p).

Quarter point rise
Factoring in a quarter of a point rise in the base rate in November, RBS’s pre-tax profit will be boosted by 10%, based on the Jefferies model. This leaves the company less reliant on the capital markets division of its unit NatWest.F

Financial stocks provided a boost to the FTSE 100, which traded 0.1% higher at 7,297.

Standard Chartered (STAN) led the rally, up 2.8% to 738.3p. Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and HSBC (HSBC) followed their peer higher, gaining 1.8% and 1.1% respectively.

Brent crude oil slid 0.8% to $58 per barrel.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada won’t buy Boeing Co. fighter jets while the company pursues a trade challenge against Montreal-based Bombardier Inc. over its commercial aircraft.

Trudeau made his threat to halt what he called Canada’s “significant procurement” of F-18 Super Hornets alongside U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May on Monday. Both leaders are pressing the U.S. firm to drop its challenge of Bombardier’s C Series program.

“We won’t do business with a company that’s busy trying to sue us and put our aerospace workers out of business,” Trudeau said at a joint press conference in Ottawa.

Just to continue the rant, there is a UK listed company called PURE. It makes a healthy substitute for sugar. It sells Globally. It eventually won sales contracts in the USA. Next thing that happens is that consignments were seized by USA Customs because of an unfounded allegation that it used "forced labour".

It took some time to prove that that allegation was without foundation and earlier this year the 'blockade' was lifted.

The IMG story is an example of that.

Back in the day when the Cable Rate was somewhat higher the American manufacturers and exporters used to call Britain "Treasure Island".

This because what they sold in the USA for say a $1000, they sold in Britain for a £1000. Apple the cause of IMG's woes, being a classic example.

But if the boot is on the other foot, all sorts of obstructions would be put-up especially in the defence/aircraft industry.
