20/11/2008 17:44 | Talk of the North American economy sliding into recession has Peter France puzzled. "We are having a fantastic year in the US," says Mr France, the chief executive of Rotork, an engineering group based in Bath, Somerset. Turning to Rotork's business in general, Mr France who took the company's top job at Rotork in May says that, while trying not to be complacent, he has yet to see signs of a downturn. "Of course, a period of weaker demand could be creeping up on us, that we just cannot see, but in most of the markets we are in, the number of projects we are working on is higher than a year ago," says Mr France. Behind this robust statement is Rotork's leading position in a specialised field of engineering. | thebteam
19/11/2008 18:49 | Rotork orders show resilience By Michael Kavanagh Published: November 14 2008 02:00 | Last updated: November 14 2008 02:00 Rotork, the maker of valve control systems for the oil, gas and water industries, shrugged off fears of a collapse in demand prompted by falling commodity prices as orders hit a new record at the end of October. Peter France, chief executive, would not specify an exact order book figure when he updated on trading yesterday, but said it exceeded £135m at the half-way stage. He conceded some customers were trimming capital expenditure plans, but the long lead times for many of their projects meant Rotork continued to enjoy strong trading prospects into next year, he said. The shares fell 12½p to 685p. Michael Kavanagh Copyright The Financial Times Limited 2008 | liarspoker
13/11/2008 14:22 | Rotork p.l.c., the specialist engineer, today issues its Interim Management Statement covering the period from 1st July to 13th November 2008. Our end markets continue to be robust and order intake has been strong. The order book at the end of October reached a new record high. We have seen raw material cost increases across many areas of the business during the period, although in the last month there has been some reversal of this trend. Some of these increases are currency related, and may affect material costs in the final quarter of 2008. Rotork has a continuous cost reduction programme which includes design review and vendor partnership programmes, that has been in place for several years. The strengthening of our two major trading currencies, the Euro and the US Dollar, through the current year, is continuing to be of benefit overall. The US Dollar has strengthened appreciably in the last few months, while the Euro has retained its gains against Sterling from earlier in the year. Around 30% of our income streams are in US Dollars and around 30% in Euros. The group continues to maintain a strong balance sheet. There have been no material events or transactions affecting the group in the period. Outlook Based on the strong sales revenue in the year to date, the strength of our order book, the level of project activity being seen in all our geographic locations and the positive currency environment, we are confident of achieving profits in excess of current market expectations for the full year 2008. | cambium
