I saw the discussion on CNBC about the possibility that BHP may move their crosshairs to RIO. They did explore a takeover in 2008 IIRC.

Is it really credible though? Surely there are huge competition issues with such a tie up?

What premium would BHP have to pay, 30%

Looking good here and sector wide too today / in general of late.

A break and hold of 5500 would be good in the short term and I then think a further push towards 6,000 is very possible later this year.

Good luck all 👍🏻

Just read all the production report and I'm very impressed especially with Oyu Tolgoi copper mine with 500,000 tons ramp up progressing nicely with shafts 3 & 4 almost complete and commissioning in the next few months. The CEO is starting to come through now IMO and RIO is going in a good direction. Happy days!!

In summary , jump in LME index start of the year ouperforming stocks, zinc , nickel and copper prices in particular due to China recovery , coupled with a constraint in new mines opening. Whilst commodity prices are showing immediate increases, Barclays advocates being overweight in European miners. Nothing really that can't be logically deduced through news in the public domain.

Probably not a good idea to be underweight in miners :hTTps://www.ft.com/content/4fa142a5-faa2-425a-9c37-b636d9c30cdc

Yeah it was 0.1% above expectations which has pushed rate cuts out stateside from June to September.

I think it's opened up a buying opportunity though which will become realised if not this week but next.

Good luck all 👍🏻

US inflation data came out at 1:30pm.

I'm guessing it was bad so interest rates will stay higher for longer...
