The safe disposal and recycling of batteries faces significant challenges in battery chemistries still under research and development, such as phosphate or manganese-based lithium battery chemistries, which have little or no valuable metals such as cobalt or nickel. These technologies have a net negative value for recycling; the effort to recycle them only for their lithium content will be very high, and recycling in the long term will likely be mainly for ecological benefits and adherence to environmental laws. This is unlikely to provide sufficient incentive to drive the development of safe disposal and recycling requirements.

Looks like recycling costs of lithiun could rise....

Lithium is good for mobile items at the moment, it won't be long before something comes along and replaces lithium as it is a serious fire hazard. 0I would wager a flow battery car before too long.

Still for now we are pure play static storage with a lithium hybrid in research phase, best of both worlds for now.

these incidents are only small battery,s, could you imagine placing a container sized lithium battery in the cente of a city...

While the Kansas City incident did not injury anyone, it is not the first Galaxy S7 smartphone to explode. Amarjit Mann, a Canadian mechanic suffered second degree burns on his hands and a spark from the phone burned his face – just missing his eye. Mann was driving when he noticed the phone getting warm in his pocket. He took it out and it immediately exploded. Mann will be out of work for approximately two weeks while he heals. In describing the smartphone he said “it’s like a bomb you carry.”

The online technology blog Tech Times notes that several Apple iPhone consumers have reported their iPhone 7 smartphone has exploded, caught fire or both. A pregnant Australian woman, Melanie Tan Pelaez, suffered second degree burns on her arm after accidently falling asleep on her iPhone 7 while it was charging.

Lithium-ion batteries continue rearing their ugly and dangerous heads.

Last Tuesday, freshmen at Staley High School in Kansas City, Mo., were forced from their classroom and into the library after the lithium-ion battery in one student’s Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge caught fire. The smartphone is not the model that was recalled this fall, but according to media reports, it is the same series and generation.

As discussed in an earlier Beasley Allen website post, lithium-ion batteries are placing more consumers in danger as the batteries struggle to meet consumers’ overwhelming demands. Even a microscopic defect can make a batter volatile. Mobile phone industry representatives warn that getting the battery wet, charging it too long, and charging the phone with a generic charger can also lead to explosion, fire or both. They also believe charger manufactures should be scrutinized to determine any link between chargers and exploding electronic devices.

A major category under CPSC's scrutiny is electronics. And increasingly in recent years, there's been the matter of batteries. They've overheated or caught fire in laptops, baby monitors, flashlights and, of course, those electric "hoverboard" scooters and Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 phones.

Lithium-ion batteries are a known troublemaker — and a subject of numerous standards and international regulations. But the incidents keep cropping up.

"This is the way standards normally work," Kaye says. "They identify a problem that is probably not a problem that needs to be solved in the future, and they're really good at making sure that thing never happens again, but then new problems have developed."

so if you would like to discuss lithium I have no problem, but if you are worried that this may impact on lithium, then you are right!!!!

There are many deaths in China in the factory,s that manufacture lithium, they are trying to clean it up, but people die in the East so people in the West can power their radio,s.....is that right???

For those that want to seek information about young children swallowing lithium battery,s google it...it is a real danger and causes a dreadfull death, it burns them from the inside..... not nice, please be aware....other people may not and think the battery will just pass through them, I know thats what I would have thought, but it does not....

I wouldn't worry about not getting a lot of shares in the open offer as you are likely to be able to buy as many as you like at 8p or less on the open market soon imo. 150m shares are lurking around here from the placing!

owenski there are markets that lithium can not fill as there are markets that flow battery,s can fill, so yes you are wrong they are both needed to fill differant needs.....
That is why REDT want to build a hybrid version of the storage machine, so it can fill both markets a one time....

Lithium battery,s are costly, dangerous and toxic.......there have been recent deaths and fires caused by lithium battery,s. I posted a photo of a girl that died from swallowing a lithium battery, the butston type, I have also highlighted the fires that Tesla have had and aircraft will not carry lithium batterys, the royal mail will not carry battery,s loose in a package...ask yourself why??? I do not know if you are aware of thermal runway??? if not look it up!! then imagine a battery the size of 20 x 40ft containers, where are you going to place it for safty reasons??? not in or near a town!!!
