14/11/2022 11:04 | hazl 3562 is an accurate statement of fact. Just because someone has a deal with a subsidiary that provides crew to the ships does not mean the deal is with MSC as a whole. Given the age of the vessel and the already installed gear, its not rcoket science to assume QFI will be subsidising the trial. Time will tell if/when the fuel is sourced, paid for, delivered and actually used and then the technical reports issued. Late 2023? | sallad3

12/11/2022 15:32 | Post 3546 Dudishes. Ignorance prevails.... 'Not sure where you get the connection of Leander and biofuel?' Let me help clear up your lack of research, dud. 'The proof-of-concept tests aboard the MSC Leandra are due to start before the end of this year with Quadrise providing the equipment and expertise to supply MSC with 1,000 tonnes each of bioMSAR™ and MSAR® from a bunker terminal. The tests act as a precursor to full operational trials next year, and are designed to confirm the engine performance of the vessel in response to the fuels. Prior to the POC test, there are some initial pre-tests taking place in Italy with Wärtsilä. As those who have recently completed exams can attest to, no test comes with a guarantee of success, but having obtained positive testing results for bioMSAR™ at Aquafuel’s UK and VTT’s Finland test facilities, we are confident that we can progress to vessel testing on schedule. | hazl
12/11/2022 15:05 | The amendments to MARPOL Annex VI are in force from 1 November 2022. The requirements for EEXI and CII certification come into effect on 1 January 2023. This means that the first annual reporting will be completed in 2023, with initial ratings given in 2024. The measures are part of IMO's commitment under its 2018 Initial Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships to reduce carbon intensity from all ships by 40% by 2030 compared to 2008. | hazl

The rules must ensure that we spend less fuel.” Alliance partner MSC wants the calculation methods of CII changed. from shippingwatch. | hazl

12/11/2022 10:08 | hazl Methinks thou art one of the "masters of puff". "MSC Shipmanagement .........and we seek to continually improve energy efficiency by collaborating with suppliers such as Quadrise to promote the wider adoption of low and zero-carbon fuels." But just what is MSC Shipmanagement? Operating from a small office in Limassol it states: "...a young MSC Family member employing nearly 14,000 people, which includes all shore staff in Cyprus, India, Ukraine and Philippines as well as the crew on board our managed cargo and cruises vessels. It has taken an extra ordinary effort to grow, and this has been possible due to an excellent team effort by all of our loyal and dedicated family members with the support of our Top Management at Geneva" So... is the QFI deal with the "Top Management at Geneva" or merely a small crew management subsidiary carrying out a test on a ship that was converted by Maesrk who had abandoned the previous trials on that ship but presumably left all the QFI bits on board when they sold it to MSC (as part of what seems to be a job-lot of Maersk's very old ships?) | sallad3
12/11/2022 08:01 | ' Subject to positive results from the POC Trials, the fuels will undergo subsequent operational trials to provide commercial operating experience with a view to obtaining Letters of No Objection ("LONOs") from the engine manufacturer (the "Trials") after proving operational viability of bioMSAR(TM) and MSAR(R) at both an interim (midway) and final stage (after circa 4,000 operating hours). It is estimated that approximately 25,000MT of fuel will be required for each of the Trials, with fuel produced by Quadrise and purchased by MSC. In conjunction with the Trials, MSC and Quadrise will jointly continue discussions with other marine engine suppliers to investigate testing bioMSAR(TM) and MSAR(R) on their engines. In parallel, subject to the successful progression of the Trial to the Interim LONO stage, Quadrise and MSC intend to negotiate a collaborative commercial agreement (or agreements) to supply bioMSAR(TM) and/or MSAR(R) to be used by MSC. The Parties will also investigate opportunities to test the Quadrise Blend-on-Board solution on a suitable MSC vessel. ' Again from the above announcement. | hazl |
