13/7/2007 00:36 | You peeps amaze me !!. So now it seems we are going to sell the UK's top defence house to the ITALIANS ... WOW.... What news that would be .. BUT .... EVEN QinetiQ does not have so many reverse gears ! Todays price action suggests a number of down gears yet. Take a look at the selling from the high. | dr darkstar
12/7/2007 12:35 | LOL DOH! Sorry, thank you The Other Kevin for alerting me to the mistake and for being so understanding to that glaring error. It has now been edited. | via con
12/7/2007 11:49 | 100p mark? Shurely shome mishtake? | the other kevin
12/7/2007 10:42 | Well we did say originally that QQ was a share to put in the draw, so to speak, to inspect from time to time. Nevertheless I would never have imagined it would languish around/below the 200p mark for so long. Anyway, good luck to all holders. cfh | via con
12/7/2007 08:58 | Hi VC, I hadn't spotted that Italian bid rumour - as you say seems pretty unlikely to be viable. I am still in the blue on QQ at present, but not by much! | wad collector
12/7/2007 08:37 | Morning all -------------------- MARKETS: Qinetiq lights up FTSE 250 amid talk of Italian bid By Neil Hume Qinetiq made a rare appearance on the FTSE 250 leaderboard yesterday amid rumours of predatory interest from Italian defence contractor Finmeccanica. Shares in the UK government's former military research laboratory rose2.8 per cent to 196½p as turnover swelled to 8.3m shares. Average daily trading volume in Qinetiq is 3.7m shares. Traders said they would not be surprised if Finmeccanica swooped for Qinetiq. The Italian company wants to expand in the UK defence market and has up to 3.5bn (£2.3bn) in cash to spend on acquisitions. Based on last night's closing price, Qinetiq is valued at £1.3bn. The only possible stumbling block to a bid would be the UK government, which still holds a golden share in Qinetiq. Traders thought Gordon Brown, prime minister, might resist approving such a sensitive deal so early in his premiership..... FT .................. No position atm, but fwiw I cannot believe the UK govt. would relinquish their control to allow the Italians to buy QQ: If a UK co. were to make a similar approach then that would be more convincing. But wtfdik. Greetings wad, nice rise today and yesterday, well done on maintaining your holding, at this rate it could reach the retail market IPO price. Suerte cfh. | via con

07/7/2007 01:57 | Market report: 07/07/2007 Last Updated: 12:30am BST 07/07/2007 Credit Suisse repeated its outperform rating at 240p price target on QinetiQ, describing the defence and security company as a core holding on a 12-month view. It said: "We see potential catalysts that could come at any time, re-awakening an apparently bored investor base and with potential to suddenly reinvigorate the stock - the timing is uncertain, but we believe it would be too late when this happens." The catalysts included the group's annual general meeting on July 27 and further acquisitions. QinetiQ ticked up ¼ to 190p. | conan the trader
27/6/2007 07:18 | This snippet from this morning's RNS, sounds fairly promising/interestin The assets to be transferred into QinetiQ Ventures LP at inception (and QinetiQ's interest in these businesses pre-transaction) are: * Aurix Limited - Real-time audio mining (88 per cent subsidiary) * Metalysis Limited - Manufacture of high value metals from low-cost oxides (16 per cent investment) * Omni-ID - Low cost passive RFID technology that works anywhere (100 per cent owned) * QinetiQ Nanomaterials Limited (QNL) - Nanomaterials IP creation, design and manufacturing (100 per cent subsidiary) * Quintel Technology Limited - Next generation antenna systems for mobile networks (50 per cent joint venture) * Stingray Geophysical Limited - 4D sea bed reservoir monitoring systems (19.9 per cent investment) * ZBD Displays Limited - Zero power point of purchase display solutions (31.6 per cent investment) | damanko
26/6/2007 21:37 | I wonder how the BAE American Investigation impacts on QQ..Not really a competitor , but it does rather tarnish the whole UK defence industry. The US public presumably has a short memory , but I suspect the BAE investigation will drag on and on. | wad collector
18/6/2007 23:49 | Why should HMG sell its primary defence research asset? There may be a bid. There won't be a sale. And why INV do you think this is worth 260 ? | dr darkstar
18/6/2007 08:38 | likely bid target at 260p | inv
13/6/2007 21:18 | JerryFallwell - Good. I remember that the space race, ostensibly driven by the military, spawned a huge amount of non-military applications. In the same vein, can see Qinetiq particularly with its major US contacts, eventually being a mega winner. | corrientes
13/6/2007 19:14 | >corrientes well, you ask me they're well on the way. The Omni-ID chip, the Ocellus S100 GPS unit, the Talon, and loads of other stuff too... | jerryfalwell
13/6/2007 17:21 | I bought into QQ. because of the great liklihood that these technical boffins will become much more commercially orientated and the company will strike paydirt from discovering non-military highly profitable innovative products. The real money is made from looking forwards, not backwards. | corrientes
13/6/2007 16:52 | This from a PDF about Omni-ID produced by Qinetiq "Omni-ID intends to be the leading provider of RFID-enabling technology for all Gen2 UHF RFID solutions at pallet, case and item level. With revenues set to grow to in excess of $600 million within 5 years, Omni-ID has all the hallmarks of a home run return for investors." bl00dy hell! and this is just revenues from Omni-ID! (or at least that's how I read it) Qinetiq is also 'inundated' with enquiries about the Ocellus S100 (their word, not mine, in an email to me the the day apologising for their delay in responding to my enquiry)! They've also just had the Talon contract doubled by the US military! there have been some 'sell' notices in the papers about QQ recently - I reckon those journos are idiots. sure, if you just look at defence training etc it doesn't look good - but revenues from other products should more than make up for it! not ramping, just very excited at the potential. | jerryfalwell
07/6/2007 22:21 | Thanks Conan. I'll have to put all the cars back now! z | zeppo
07/6/2007 21:31 | So there I was, browsing thru this weeks issue (No 964) of Auto Express when what should I see on page 20 but a picture of Qinetiq's Ocellus S100 ! The news article reads "... Meanwhile, a new satellite receiver will make it harder for thieves to steal cars and sat-navs. The Ocellus S100 has an aerial so sensitive that it can be hidden beneath seats, in gloveboxes or even under the chassis. UK firm Qinetiq has perfected the receiver so that it doesn't need to see the sky to work. Its best role is in vehicle tracking, but it can be used for sat-nav by adding a screen, which can be hidden under a cover." Great top-of-the-range sat nav potential here I think! | conan the trader
05/6/2007 12:33 | Are we at last seeing a period of sustained rise in SP? | wad collector
04/6/2007 22:46 | A good 3.39% rise today. Take a look at Qinetiq's Omni-ID "RFID that works everywhere". It could be very big if played right: | conan the trader |
