Which energy minister
warned us back in October
2007 in relation to Ireland's 85
per cent dependence on
imported gas and oil? "This
reliance on imported fuels
from areas of the world that
are geopolitically volatile
contributes to price instability
and vulnerability in Ireland.
New domestic sources of oil
and gas would ease this
pressure." It was Eamon Ryan.
He also said that "Ireland's
oil and gas is a resource of the
people. I want to ensure that
our waters are fully explored
and also that we get a proper
return to the State." (Irish
Times, October 7th, 2007).
This paper's editorial
commented on Russia's then
use of gas, and Gazprom threats
to cut off supplies to Ukraine.
(October 9th, 2007) and the
need for domestic energy
security and exploration
So, any suggestion that
Ireland was taken completely
by surprise by the recent
energy crisis and Russia's
turning of the screw needs to
look at the record. It was
foreseen in outline. But little or
nothing was done.
Delay is one thing. But
wrong-headed refusal to
confront realities and
wrong-headed legislation to
close off storage and explora-
tion options is another thing
altogether.
Weare very vulnerable.
Shorter morning showers and
turned-down thermostats in
the home and elsewhere may
help a little. But an increasing
population and an increasing
demand for electricity for data
centres, transport and non-fos-
sil-fuel home heating, coupled
with the need to keep our
economy moving in all sectors,
demands a different "hands
on" approach.
The real world does not
operate on the "Let there be
light" basis of the Book of
Genesis.

Ryan might ban international sport if he was minister for sport to reduce carbon emissions even though the hypocritical greens fly business class !

The clock is ticking loudly but the only course of action is for The Taoiseach to get rtan out of energy brief and move him to sport where he cant do any harm.

Sound of chickens coming home to roost!!! Was wee Putin sincere in his condolences to
the queen? Her German ancestry may have left him a wee bit partial to that ancient cold fish.

Jacob has been tasked to deliver a new policy on increasing home grown energy , lets hope that includes cooperation with Irish interests , one easy solution is for the company to sell the assets to a major player , now what valuation would that bring here.

Take profits!! Most who have been invested here over the (MANY) years will NEVER see a profit.
But do keep the postings up as they are very amusing.

Decision on LNG plant delayed again as Bord Pleanala play the old request for additional information trick. Closed for business other than loss making capital granted alternative energy. Wish Ireland had a Liz Truss handy....

Larry will never end up with the short end of the stick because, like all the rest, he is, and will be, well paid for whatever outcome ensues. The ones who will, and have, are those who have already lost millions in PVR, and especially the long termers who have had to witness the fall from grace and the unkept promises of yesteryear.

With the current state of affairs worldwide, and in particular the single-minded, tunnel vision policies, currently being strongly enforced by this Irish government, there is still a matter of finances to be overcome for Barryroe, something which history is telling us is far from being realised should permission be granted on the lease.

Having said all that I would agree that circumstances have begun to look more favourable and there will never be a better time to get Barryroe up and running. For me it's very much a question of when. I have long ago written off my investment here, on paper, but I remain optimistic that the loss will, at some point, be substantially reduced.

I am hopeful that the world is waking up to the fact that SOME government GREEN policies worldwide are contributing to the current state of affairs.

Thanks to all for the useful postings of recent weeks and good luck to all who, in the long term, take profits.

regards

peaeff
