28/1/2016 14:29 | phil, the beauty is that since the 99p store takeover there have been few places that suppliers can dispose of surplus stocks too and any perceived competition to buy these goods has now gone as far as bulk deals are concerned. So they will able to obtain better margins on a lot of stock once full conversion has taken place but will already be starting to kick in imo. | clocktower
28/1/2016 14:13 | Hi ct , I was talking to people in a Poundland recently and they said that StarWars Memorabilia stuff was literally flying out the door - no pun intended ;-) | philanderer
28/1/2016 14:10 | phil, I think that will be the start of the big turnaround in the share price but I guess other good news will have reached the market before then but after that maybe a re-rating or two, upwards. | clocktower
28/1/2016 14:04 | Afternoon guys , general market malaise today .... I`ve had a small top up @ 142p again . Trouble is there`s no real news until april 14th for the Q4 trading update. So really it`s just keep your eyes open and check out some stores for yourself and question staff on trading ;-) There is a trade briefing on 24th february which was mentioned in an interview I posted a couple of days ago. We are pleased to announce details of the IGD Poundland Trade Briefing 2016, which will take place on Wednesday 24 February in Coventry. This event is an unrivalled opportunity for current and potential Poundland suppliers to learn how to work more effectively – and ultimately sell more – with the discounter. Join CEO Jim McCarthy, new trading director Simon Twigger and the senior team at the IGD Poundland Trade Briefing 2016 to hear the very latest on how your business can win with Poundland during this unprecedented time of growth. | philanderer
28/1/2016 13:54 | In the same region as yours Gd but may hold for longer but also trade part of my holdings from time to time on spikes and dips, as I do with most. | clocktower
28/1/2016 12:22 | What`s your timeframe on these clocktower . I think it`s got to be minimum of a 1 year hold whatever the market conditions this should be a good investment . | golf driver
28/1/2016 11:58 | Taking a beating with this but like many volume is low today and the market is suffering - almost no end in sight at present. | clocktower
28/1/2016 11:08 | Maybe i`m missing something but this stock surely needs a re-rating ie an Upgrade . It has the credentials to ride out any recession and will prosper on the High street under any circumstances . It must surely be included in any portfolio for it`s defensive qualities . Think i`ll ask Investors Chronicle to view this for their opinion | golf driver

27/1/2016 13:05 | They forget to say the placing was at 280p . It appears we can buy at a good discount to that price , that`s if you can actually get hold of enough stock , not the most liquid of shares . It appears to me a few shenanigans going on with the investment houses . | golf driver
27/1/2016 11:44 | So there u go, they read my email. Poundland Plus a la Lidl and Aldi coming to a 99p store near me. | philo124

26/1/2016 20:24 | Interesting article, thanks. I see the positives, and a lot is the existing party line. Couple of points: 1. They need to rationalise some overlapping stores, where Plnd and 99p outlets are in very close proximity. that may depend on lease terms or sale of freehold (do thay have any?). 2. An example of product is washing powder, sold in larger boxes for around £5. Such product is often discounted from time to time by the big supermarkets, and at low prices by other discounters such as B&M. | redartbmud
26/1/2016 20:02 | Interesting... 26 January 2016 EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: SIMON TWIGGER, POUNDLAND TRADING DIRECTOR Ahead of IGD's Poundland Trade Briefing next month, our Director of Retail Insight, Ben Miller, speaks to Poundland's Trading Director, Simon Twigger, about the discounter's recent results, its growing estate and new ranges. BM: Poundland recently published its Q3 results. While the city focused on profit performance, our eyes were drawn to the sales growth opportunities you are creating. What would you like suppliers to take from your latest corporate performance, and what would you like to see from them in 2016? ST: Recent market data indicates that the market had no growth. Our plans and integration of 99p Stores offers suppliers a massive opportunity for growth. BM: Your progress in converting the acquired 99p Stores estate to the Poundland format appears to have got off to a faster start than expected. Can you update us on the latest timings for this, and share what the ranging in the converted stores is? Do they get the full Poundland range? ST: You are right we have accelerated our conversion programme and we plan to have the majority of stores converted by the end of April. We have compared the space and ranges between the two businesses and taken the learnings into the new stores. BM: There’s a clear ‘point of distribution growth’ story with Poundland at the moment, with the 99p acquisition and your organic opening programme. How many new stores are you planning to open in coming months and years, and should we expect more stores away from British High Streets? ST: With the conversion programme we will have over 900 stores under the Poundland brand. Alongside the conversion we will continue to open up to 60 new Poundland stores and Dealz stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland. These will be in Retail Parks, Shopping Centres and the High Street. BM: Moving on from your stores to your products now. Which are the parts of your ranges you’ll be seeking to develop most in the year ahead? Any new categories planned for Poundland? ST: Our ranges will continue to evolve as we are a limited range retailer and all products need to earn their keep on our shelves. Our customers give us feedback the whole time on what amazing products they would like to see. Recently customers asked us to restock a product….so we did. BM: Poundland has always been vocal about the simplicity of your pricing proposition, but now we hear about plans for trials of a larger store with a multi-price point proposition. Details of this a few and far between at the moment – what can you share with your supply base on this so they can help you build the range, and when will we find out more? ST: The larger stores in the 99p Stores estate offer an opportunity to try something different. Our customers have confirmed that they would like us to offer them Amazing Value products above a pound in relevant categories. We will give more details at the Trade Briefing. BM: Simon, you mentioned the upcoming IGD Poundland Trade Briefing. To finish, why would you say your suppliers should join us in Coventry next month? ST: Our business has changed a lot in the last 2 years and will again the next 2 years. We would like to share our plans in more detail with our suppliers at the event. BM: Thanks. | philanderer

26/1/2016 16:24 | NYB , fair enough fella , thanks for the reply. Tempted myself to start trickling some money into a few of the big boys like RIO , RDSB but haven`t yet. Portfolio still around 85% cash but I`ve added another 1000 PLND shares today at 142.40p . I think we`re getting somewhere near bottom here. Takes two views to market anyway :-) Luck with your holdings. | philanderer |
