Canaccord 300p fwiw.

They should rebrand as "Poundland Plus" and sell non food merchandise like Aldi and Lidl where these 2 make most of their money. Requires good buyers and supply chain of course.
I did email them about this 3 months ago but didn't get a reply.

Poundland’s long-term strategy is encouraging

A three- to five-year strategy set out by Poundland (PLND) increases expectations for the discount retailer, and counters current trading gloom.

Peel Hunt analyst Jonathan Pritchard retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and 400p target price on the shares.

Poundland yesterday tumbled 11.9% to 169p after warning profits would come in below forecasts following a poor Christmas season. But Pritchard saw better times ahead.

‘Poundland has now set out a clear strategic vision for the next three to five years and we are encouraged,’ he said. ‘Yes, trading is weak at present – which high street retailers’ isn’t? – but in terms of forecast momentum we are confident that we have found the nadir.

‘Of arguably most interest is the six-store trial of multiple pricing in the former Family Bargains, under a new fascia, starting in April. If that works, then the profit and loss could be galvanised as it rolls across the Poundland network.

‘The shares do not reflect the prospect that guidance for 99p Stores could be too low, and certainly don’t discount any upside from going multiple-price. We believe they offer excellent value.’

lol.. Inevitably in time these will be their self professed gold ticket
price. Pound a share..

Ultimately something like a WLW Mark viii.. 5p.. Except Lord AMS wont be
buying 5 million poundland shares to try and avoid the eventual inevitable
0p..

Gambler addicts mugs game complaining all the way down whilst racking up
compounded paper losses and over time actual cash loss. If the vital 6 weeks
Christmas is 'disappointing' which nearly ALL other retailers are starting
to see unfold and realise is going to be Reality. Then what share price following
early 2016 "trading update".. Sub 165p.. 2016 is NOT going to be a major
Boom year for bankrupt Britain with worse recession than 2008/9 inbound..

Telegraph market report:

Elsewhere in the retail sector, Poundland found itself at the bottom of the mid-cap index after it said it expects full-year pre-tax profits to come in towards the lower end of its forecasts due to lower high street footfall and mild weather conditions in the last quarter.

Despite the disappointing results, David Jeary, of Canaccord Genuity, remained optimistic, as he pointed to benefits from the integration of the 99p Stores chain and international expansion, “with the Spanish trial seeing sales growth of just over 100pc to £4.5m”. The shares fell 12.6pc to 167.8p.

I have no position but just want to flag up to holders that Poundland will be automatically relegated from the FTSE 250 at the March reshuffle which will keep the share price under pressure.

The expected late flurry leaving me slightly in the red but with what I consider a great longer term investment. Good Luck if you`r day trading.

Let us look at the positives for Poundland.

The Yuan is down for the eighth day running, which results in better buying prices and on top of that they will be quoting lower prices to keep the factories busy.

Shipping: The rates have fallen substantial over the past three months. The graph indicates the level of fall.

hxxp://en.shippingchina.com/scfi/index/detail/line_id/3/date1/2015-09-01/date2/2015-12-31.html

With forward prices agreed months before, it likely that stocks arriving for the 2016 season will only now be benefiting from the falls since August 2015. On low value bulky items this will add to the bottom line.

As more stores convert from 99p to the standard format the benefits start to increase as they confirmed in the "Strategy Highlights" there has been a sales uplift in converted stores. The bulk will undoubtedly be on stream in this quarter.

Strong Sales in Spain in the Ten Store trial - opening up another avenue of profit as critical mass has started to occur as it is only recently that all are open and generating income.

Ireland: Currently 51 stores trading - up from 34 with potential to expand this further, providing further critical mass.

The weather has been blamed by other retails for lowering the footfall - this is likely to change as the long range forecasts suggest.

hxxp://www.theweatheroutlook.com/twoforecasts/daily-ultra-long-range.aspx

Strong Cash position at end of Q3 - Net Cash £35.4m

Incremental EBITDA of at least £25m from the 99p store transaction.

Strong Cost and Margin Controls in place.

Profits maybe small at present but with the volume likely to grow the results should reflect the positive advantages of this mass.

LOL Never said that GR as well you know, having been buying around the levels you mention, I will be adding as it starts its rise on a good day towards £2.and may well be willing buy them from you at some point in the not to distant future at £2+. Sentiment will turn, those going short just making money but their risk is high imo at this point in time, but that is trading.

LOL Zyzzyva, I think you know why but I can understand your comment if you are short and looking to make further profit as we can see the upside will be slower than the downside has been over the past six months. However, recover they will imo as it is only because the market has been hit hard since the start of the year that these are even trading sub £2.

Still, if you want a list of reasons why others like me are happy to pay more than the current offer, I will be happy to provide you with further info. :-)

It was hardly a profit warning (as the guardian headline suggests) all that was stated that the figures would be at the lower end of forecasts. With the change of 99p stores having been completed by April, the likely result imo, is that all these outlets will start to generate profits at a higher level than has been the case in in the past, In fact I think it is also likely that the whole group will be able to generate better gross margins due to the slow down in China and the lower costs of shipping that they are now seeing. The group shifts a huge amount of stock and with the extra buying power they now have will be able to ratchet up the net profit going forward.
