The article does say it's a new investment & the RNS doesn't state previous holdings ?

Isnt that Gartmore just topping up its investment by 160,000 shares, rather than a new investment as suggested by the article?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 2010

Porvair wins new three year aluminium contract

Porvair plc today announces that it has signed a three year global supply
agreement with Alcoa Inc, the world's leading producer of primary aluminium.
Under the terms of the Agreement, Porvair's subsidiary, Selee Corporation, will
supply its patented Selee-CSX(TM) aluminium filter to Alcoa plants worldwide.
The Selee-CSX(TM) filter, introduced in 2008, is the first significant product
innovation in this market for many years. It provides better levels of
filtration, higher metal throughput and ergonomic benefits to operators. It has
already captured over 90% of the North American market and has been adopted or
is under trial across the world. It won the American Ceramic Society's
Corporate Environmental Achievement award in 2009 for removing phosphates and
ceramic fibres from the aluminium filtration process.
Commenting on the agreement, Ben Stocks, Chief Executive of Porvair plc, said:
"We are delighted to have again been chosen as a key supplier to Alcoa Inc, a
position we have now held for over 10 years. Selee Corp is the market leader in
aluminium filtration with a strong record of quality, innovation and customer
service. The development team at Selee have done a great job in rolling out the
product, and have found several minor product improvements in 2010 that will
further enhance the product's worldwide potential. Selee coped well in
extremely difficult trading conditions of 2009, but demand in 2010 has been on a
steadily improving trend."

Share price on the move. Its possible that Italian entrepreneur, Giorgio Girondi, may make a bid for the company through his firm GGG S.p.A. as a means of expanding his "filter" operation. There was much speculation about this last year when he upped his shareholding in Porvair to over 20%. With Porvair's results improving and a market cap of approx £30m, it maybe an excellent strategic investment. Although I assume it would cost him a lot more than 65p per share. Worth watching

Comment in the FT:

Filtration specialist Porvair firmed 5 per cent to 62½p after a positive trading update, which flagged progress in all of its businesses including aviation.

Garth
you are right; no room for uplist and I predict that it will continue to underperform. It needs to be bought, delisted and the bits sold off. Pity the poor people who paid £4.2 for it in 2001; It will never see a £1 again.

Sounds like the year has started well for Porvair, they even sound bullish about the results in April. Hopefully this will get things moving.
