22/8/2022 16:27 | The war in Ukraine and ensuing sanctions have failed to cement Russia's power vertical or unify the country's influential business and political groups. Had President Vladimir Putin gotten the swift victory he was clearly counting on when he launched his "special operation," he would have solidified his position as ruler, but as the conflict drags on, the elites are being forced to think of their future and to try to find their place within it.Putin himself demonstrates no intention to step down but looks increasingly relegated to the past. The elites and potential successors are watching his every military move, but they can already see that he has no place in their postwar vision of the future. His sole remaining function in their perception of the new era of peace will be to nominate a successor and leave the stage. The war has, therefore, set in motion a public race of the successors... 22/8/2022 08:42 | Why do you think that is good news? Russia is at war so there is a high chance the next people or person in charge would be a war hungry general picked from Putin's circle. The chances of a bad and unpredictable outcome go up hugely. We all do hope for an end to this war though (especially everyone on this board). | planit2

21/8/2022 22:15 | JPJohn Polenski3 HRS AGOIn any "civilized" country a person like Dugin would have long since been ostracized and shunned. In Russia, despite being controversial, he is still widely respected and has the ear of those at the highest level. And indeed Dugin has been espousing his appalling Eurasian theories for decades. This is the nature of the country we have been trying to deal with all this time - not just Germany and the rest of Europe with its gas purchases, but all the billions of dirty money washed through London and facilitated by an entire British army of willing professionals. We are all complicit, till we finally woke up in February.Russia's intrinsic brutality as a country has been apparent for some time, and still we have tried to treat them as innately civilized, despite the number of outrages they have perpetrated both at home and on foreign soil. Why have we tolerated them for so long? Because we think they're "European", like us? But they don't really want to be. So Europe should kick them out. All institutions, all structures, even all sporting organizations. There are too many others like Dugin in Russia, promoting sick ideologies yet enjoying favour with the Kremlin, for us ever to feel safe..... Daily Telegraph | xxxxxy

21/8/2022 07:15 | Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed that a team of independent inspectors can travel to the Moscow-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant via Ukraine, the French presidency said on Friday. The apparent resolution of a dispute over whether inspectors travel to the plant via Ukraine or Russia came as a senior U.S. defense official said Ukraine's forces had brought the Russian advance to a halt..... 20/8/2022 19:41 | Thomas Macdonald1 DAY AGORussia announces a joint military exercise with Russian, N Korean and Chinese units in Eastern Russia. Russia thinks this is a great propaganda coup causing great anxiety in the west. N Korea think this is great propaganda showing that Russia and China think highly of N Korean military capability. China thinks this is a wonderful opportunity to carry out detailed reconnaissance, on the ground, of a region that they might well be invading when Russia is defeated by Ukraine.... 19/8/2022 18:20 | Trader, that calc is affected by the fact that Kazak operations are more efficient than the Russian mines and there is a big question mark on where the debt goes. If Russian assets absorb their fair share of debt, your fist calculation looks better as the Khazak mines generate about 50% off profit. It would be really nice if the Russian side took on most of the Russian debt and also took on the Russian shareholders who might be happier with holding assets in the Russian mines only. In this case there could be a very favourable outcome. | planit2
