09/10/2017 07:25 | Disclosed short positions. With the completion of the Wood Group - Amec deal, I think AQR's short position in Wood Group should largely disappear (offset by the Wood Group shares issued to AMEC shareholders), leaving its Petrofac position as the real standout (in terms of % of shorted company) in its portfolio. | 1gw

06/10/2017 18:54 | 5% there is also a lot of luck involved as in any gambling activity. That said making predictions is a haphazard game. myself being guilty as everyone else( my post today saying 439p close) It is very difficult to take a standoff position and separate reality from wishful thinking, and what we want to happen. Even the pro's get it wrong . | notimpressed
06/10/2017 18:12 | 5% post 9938 if it was that predictable everyone else would do the same | notimpressed
06/10/2017 17:41 | adejuk re post 9935 "shorters don't buy shares to sell" they sell the borrowed shares then buy them back at a lower price and return them to the original holder, that is how they make money. So if a shorter needs to buy back shares for return to the owner then the share price will rise,if large numbers are involved. what don't you understand from above? naked shorting is illegal. | notimpressed
06/10/2017 16:51 | Adejuk, Yes,440 sounds like a realistic sell price on Monday mid morning. I will aim to dump all my cheap shares at that price to reduce my exposure and maybe buy back for 420 or less in the late afternoon. :-) | cinquepercento
06/10/2017 16:39 | Gutted guys | lodgeview
06/10/2017 16:35 | 5% that's my reading 440 + by mid morning then down but the shorters are in charge at the mo we need contract news to stop them for a while this will go on for at least a year imo gl not impressed shorters don't buy shares to sell they borrow them unless they have a way to naked short ie derivatives | adejuk
06/10/2017 16:31 | Bought some more at 431 aprox. | cinquepercento
06/10/2017 16:27 | At least, you are a rich mug,Adejuk. :-) So the big question is where will this go on Monday? Will we continue with a low morning buy in price and a quick profit by late morning with an afternoon drop down towards 420 or lower? I just hope that it stops at or before 400. :-) | cinquepercento
06/10/2017 16:27 | A shorter buys shares and sells them immediately. he relies on buying them back at a lower price to turn a profit. So if there is a big demand for shares to close a short position the price rises. the MM's make money on the differential. MM's are independent and serve no one's interest but their own. | notimpressed
06/10/2017 16:19 | of course the mm, these days, is an algo and that algo knows more about your behaviour than you do :-) | adejuk
06/10/2017 16:18 | if the shorter is still in the game he will place ano sell on monday morning the mm will raise the share price to fill it then he will drop the share price during the day to encourage the mugs - that's you and me - to buy them. it sucks | adejuk
06/10/2017 16:16 | if they don't fill the sell order, the seller will take the business elsewhere. remember the rating US agency collusion with the banks during the crash? | adejuk
06/10/2017 16:13 | remember, the mm make money on the trade, not the sp | adejuk
06/10/2017 16:13 | they prob sold at 445 this this morning and the mm are balancing the books | adejuk
06/10/2017 16:08 | ad, why would they buy at a high price and sell at a lower price, not really conducive to making a profit | notimpressed
06/10/2017 16:08 | Notimpressed: The buy and sell figures are manipulated to keep the price up or down for the shorters or the big player,in my opinion. While you are encouraged by the buy majority ,they are busy selling or vice versa. One of the posters here advised me to ignore the buy and sell figures and he was absolutely right. | cinquepercento
06/10/2017 16:08 | "if the advfn buy/sell numbers are to be believed"... you must be joking!! Even I can buy at the bid and sell on the offer, so what do you think bigger players are doing? Those AdvFn guesses are exactly that - and often wrong. | woodhawk
06/10/2017 16:05 | notimp a sell | adejuk
06/10/2017 16:04 | So it has now tested the support at 431/432 again. Now what? | cinquepercento
06/10/2017 16:03 | ad if shorts buy the price goes up. MM's are not charitable entities | notimpressed |
