Adejuk,

Re:£15,000 lots:

I have bought and sold in half an hour on Petrofac and made a couple of hundred pounds or so on some days.

I bought and sold £15,000 and made 17 pence profit yesterday because I thought that it was going down but don't ask me to share this profit with you.:-)

I made money on IGG instead.

IGG goes ex dividend today so I will be watching for a nice drop to get back in.

Very diversified and over very many years so there have been some very good ones along the way, but I don't do day trading. Too diversified to keep track of, in fact. However, there do seem to have been quite a few unexpected shockers in the past year or so even though there hasn't been a general market crash. The rise in VCP covered most of them and don't worry, I won't starve. The divs. come in faster than I can spend them. The more money you have invested, the more duplication (or triplication or more) you tend to get in a sector and the service/construction sector has been hit badly recently as was the mining sector a couple of years ago and now the utilities and so on, so overall not much progress is made and I wish I had stuck with property which demands much less time.

Once PFC is out of the way I shall probably revert to benign neglect. It has been interesting to watch this dance though.

PFC, Short Position is @ 8.09. Gone up by 0.01 %.

Bluerunner, with all due respect the odd O/T does not do any harm on a BB.

Mr 5% Just a £2K punt to pass the time. Buy on rumer sell on news. That is all.

Boulversee seems that you lost lot with quiet few shares. how diversified is your portfolio? or maybe this is a survivorship bias impression and you dont consider all the other ones that made you money?

Apologies. I shouldn't have responded.

But PFC is getting rather boring. Up and down like a yo-yo within approximately the same limits. I had expected it to go up a lot more this morning but if it doesn't come back a lot at lunchtime that will be a good sign.

CLLN. What a nightmare. As long term holders, all my family are losing most of our investment, amounting to quite a lot of dosh. I doubt if any bid will be very high if it materialises at all. I wonder how our govt. will fancy placing orders with foreign firms.

Maitrix25,

Re:Carillion:

Be careful that you don't get burned on this share.

Wait for the RNS re:take over.

I bought £5000 at an average of 56 pence but dumped it as it was still going down.

I would love to be someone "in the know" on that share but every company is being shorted to death at the moment so I will stay out of this for now.

I hope that you make heaps of money on this.

Garycook.

Yes,that was me with the 3313 shares at 4.52665 at 8.30am. :-)

Matrix25, Re:eggs in one basket,I could have bought £30k and another £30k if the price really dropped but it seemed too much of a risk.

£15 either way feels a lot more comfortable.

I don't think that I have the patience for investment.

I am happy to make £200 to £300 profit on £30k or so on day trading and

keep the risk low.

Of course,I can not do that every day.

Cinquepercento. Good Morning.
Nice play by you. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
If you look at PFC's Yearly Chart the trend is overall upward.
You should then hold a core holding of whatever amount you feel comfortable with. Don't do Day Trading.Very few Day Traders make money.Patience is the Mantra here. AIMHO.
Only saying. Have a good day all.

I agree,Robo.

There is a lot of useful information and ideas to be learned here from the various posters.

Most of us here appreciate this.

For example,as a result of Adejuk's post about putting in 15k yesterday,I have done the same this morning instead of my usual £30k.

I can now take the profits today if it goes up or top up with the other 15k if it goes down a lot.

This would be obvious to some but it wasn't to me.
