I’d say that the recent price moves owe themselves to the manoeuvres of Comcast’s CEO Mr.Brian Roberts.(See today’s Daily Mail ‘City Finance Section’. Rgds. S1.

Well this explains the bizarre recent price movements contra the market etc - witness the dream coat trade with the golden lining - Arris long Technicolor short - amazing!

Going back to Technicolor's 2017 results, they also passed on the dividend and lost their CFO. Perhaps too simplistic to read it purely as the consequence of overstretching with the Cisco deal as they seem to have been hit on several fronts (although memory cost in Connected Home seems to have been a big factor). In their presentation they bemoan the "non-contributive and non-scalable customers" (in Connected Home) which they intend to "de-focus" - not clear whether these are Cisco heritage, Technicolor heritage or a mix.

It certainly puts Arris' 2017 performance in a favourable light.

"Dividend
The Board of Directors of Technicolor will not propose a dividend to the 2018 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in light of 2017 financial performance.

Management update
Technicolor announces the departure of Esther Gaide, the Group's Chief Financial Officer, who will leave the Group on 20 March 2018 to pursue a new professional opportunity. Her successor will be announced shortly."

... the headline number of $475m is actually $150m cash in hand plus a list of adjustments from future contingent revenues ... solving a business issue or patching up the balance sheet ... seems the market deems that Arris accrues the spoils of a competitor under stress.

Technicolor. Looking back at their 2017 results (21st Feb), I see they announced their intended retrenchment (withdrawing from certain customers and countries) in Connected Home, which can only be positive for Arris, I would have thought.

"Connected Home: going forward, Connected Home will focus on new opportunities in home networking and streaming solutions, including through alliances and partnerships. It will also concentrate its efforts to durably improve its profitability. In this context, the Group has decided to exit from a number of customers and countries which are a drag on the division’s profitability."

Technicolor having a bit of a shocker today after announcing the sale of its patent licensing business.

In fact if you want to feel better about your Arris investment, maybe worth having a look at a 1 year chart for technicolor...

It is apparent that it will take a vociferous preditor to turn the fortunes of Arris to our benefit rather than the share price seesawing every other day. Please be soon. Rgds.,S1.

Agree. I spoke too soon. Over 10% down since the merger and that's after the slide in value before we could get our hands on them I think. But like I said, still thinking 3 years out!

As a Pace holder, I always thought that Arris did a much better job of shouting about their products than Pace, but it feels the same now with Arris. That said, and despite the price being in a rut or somewhat slightly eroding, it looks like that the company is probably on more certain ground than any recent time( my interest is from 2005). I don't think we are going to see a sudden jump here any time soon, but it is looking possible for some sustained growth over the next 3 years, as long as there are no major hard-disk, memory, tsunami issues or IP infringements. I still have about 30% of my initial holding left and is the only share outside of the uk that I hold, my initial plan after the Arris deal was to sell out, but with brexit on the way it seems sensible to have at least one other interest outside of the uk. Anyone seeing any downside here?
