Ancient Trees: Beth Moon Spends 14 Years Photographing World’s Oldest Trees

Beth Moon, a photographer based in San Francisco, has been searching for the world’s oldest trees for the past 14 years. She has traveled all around the globe to capture the most magnificent trees that grow in remote locations and look as old as the world itself.

“Standing as the earth’s largest and oldest living monuments, I believe these symbolic trees will take on a greater significance, especially at a time when our focus is directed at finding better ways to live with the environment” writes Moon in her artist statement.

Sixty of Beth Moon’s duotone photos were published in a book titled “Ancient Trees: Portraits Of Time”. Here you can have a sneak preview of the book, full of strangest and most magnificent trees ever.

On Valentine’s Day, a mysterious sculpture popped up in front of Edinburgh’s Scott Monument. Taking inspiration from Banksy’s iconic 2002 piece Balloon Girl, the artwork created quite a stir.

The sculpture shows a girl, placed in front of the statue of Sir Walter Scott, reaching for a red balloon. This time, however, the balloon is actually a floating red naval mine with a heart cut out. City officials and onlookers were left puzzled by the sculpture, which was signed Grantsy, as hoards of people came out to photograph the work.

Botany might seem like an unlikely inspiration for lighting, but for industrial designer Mariana Folberg, it makes sense. She has a series of plant lamps, which combine contemporary lighting with the beauty of green flora.

Powered by LED bulbs, the acrylic leaves mimic their living counterparts. They’re individually crafted to evoke the essence of the organic forms and are complete with engraved veins that run from the stems to the tips of their leaves. When lit, electricity flows from their veins and casts a soft glow, displaying the design’s intricate details

Major shareholders.

The proxy statement for the AGM gives a list of shareholders holding more than 5% of the shares as of 15th March 2017:

7.8% Vanguard
7.1% Blackrock
5.1% Alphabet

If I go back to my spreadsheet of the 8.3 declarations ahead of the merger, then the major shareholder list has lost Maverick Capital and Wellington Management Group, both of which held more than 5% of Arris pre-merger on 31st December 2015.

The Alphabet holding goes back to the financing of the Motorola Home acquisition by Arris from Google. Somehow it feels reassuring to see that Alphabet has held on to the shares.
