Hanging fire for now - got plenty - bought a load at 53/54p recently.

Also, managed to drop out 10% (ish) on the 63p spike so ready to reload perhaps at 53p ish again.

Yes, they held quite a few, and looking at their other holdings, they seem to go for a spread of smaller resource plays...

Indeed zcaprd7 - which is why I felt it more likely to be fund holding reasons rather than any falling out with management.

The guy is a lightweight but taking a salary normally associated with Footsie 100 organisations , and what has he achieved exactly , blown nearly £2 billion , and now unable to put together their biggest deal , bring in someone who knows the industry !!

Cooper must be quite close to them, so it would be interesting to find out why they lost patience...

A firm bid is conditional on the board and institutional shareholders, which overlap in the two companies, providing binding support for the bid, known as irrevocables. San Francisco base investment manager Sailingstone Capital Partners is the biggest shareholder in Salamander, with 13.34pc of the register, and second largest in Ophir.Ophir's chief executive Nick Cooper also has an interest in the deal going ahead as he still owns 850,000 shares in Salamander, a legacy of his time as the oil explorer's finance chief. Ophir's offer values Mr Cooper's stake at £985,150.

@NigelPM

Frigging ridiculous it has taken them this long to notify

Should be a week max, for everyone, all FM's et al.

It isn't difficult for Compliance departments at all to stay behind for extra 30mins per day to get these all out into public domain.

Not quite FSAWatcher - the clue is in the RNS :

6. Date on which issuer notified 16/04/2018

So, in other words OPHR weren't made aware until 16/04/2018 - which is when they put out the 5 RNS.

Don't know the procedure for a fund having their knuckles wrapped but presumably if you are an FSA watcher - you'd know? ;-)

My money is on this one.

More to come, or do we think they have dumped the lot last week now?

Suspicion would be that they want to dump the lot - could be a change in fund rules - might be getting out of fossil fuels as an example.

Alternatively they might have completely lost faith with the board.

The spike last week still seems odd particularly given the holding news.

zcarp , of course in hindsight we all now know why the share price was crashing in December , because the insiders knew about the millions being dumped , these shares may of course not have a new home yet , hence the low share price , and if there is an overhang then it's a long wait.

We'll find out soon enough who has bought the stake, this is a non-story, funds buy and sell all the time and make some shocking calls like any market participant. Sailing should have sold out 2 years ago but got their white flag out at the bottom and someone else will benefit at their expense.
