As long as coal prices continue to track lower, then it will eventually have a positive effect on the share price

Coal price continuing to track lower. However, some nervous investors here - lack of a trading update is clearly spooking the market creating uncertainty and doubt.Opg should address this - what little confidence remains is being seriously eroded. It is clearly a conscious decision to not put out a trading statement as they have done the last 5 years. I don't think they are obliged to put out a Q3 trading update, but lack of one is seriously bad for confidence given some of the issues facing the company. It is easy to fear the worst.Jozo

For what it's worth my gut feeling is that they are holding back for some positive news possibly on a number of fronts (without it things could look very grim especially with the longer than expected sustaining of high coal prices)I am hoping that they are waiting to be able to update positively on one or even better all of the following1. Historical and future group captive status2. Resolution of issues regarding Repayment of loan3. Solar project up and running and starting to impact on revenue stream4. Positive Hedging strategies (not holding breath on this one)We shall see. Also new finance director may have a different approach to news flow.Whatever the reasons the lack of communication is as always pitiful and I hope there communications team, analysts, and larger investors are on their case.Jozo

Maybe the news is so good that they're hesitating to publish it for fear of the share price exploding to above £1....

They have occasionally popped these trading statements out later in the dayThough I am concerned that they don't have an awful lot of good news to report so maybe even trying to avoid a trading update. Jozo

STur,

I think you're possibly correct over reason for significant drop in coal prices yesterday though I doubt whether will supply can increase dramatically in short term.

Found a couple of news related stories out yesterday which give 'food for thought' with implications for opg

I am confident that there will be a Quarter 3 update in the next couple of days. Quarter 3 updates have been issued previously on the dates detailed below:28.02.1726.02.1627.02.1517.02.1428.02.13Regarding future coal prices could be to do with ramp up of production in India??

Certainly no Rns this year to indicate a trading update (hope it's not because they're trying to avoid passing on bad news)On a positive note - coal had been rising again slowly over last 10 days but some significant falls today especially for March spot prices (3% fall) and April futures (4% fall) (forward prices not yet updated from Friday but expect to so similar falls)Anyone aware of any data out today (possibly China related) that may be the spark?Jozo

Some things take longer to cook and command a higher price when they are ready.

(But then you might say if they cook for so long that they get burnt, then they may not be worth much, if at all.)

"Maintain overarching gloom and pessimism at all costs."
Too much hard work and stress to be in this permanent state of gloom; easier to have no expectation, forget, and perhaps have an unexpected and pleasant surprise at some point in the future....

If you adjust your expectations to minus 11 on the amp, then there may be room for surprise. Do not, under any set of circumstances, be even remotely optimistic going in to the results. Maintain overarching gloom and pessimism at all costs.

Andycapp,Hopefully trading update at end of month like last year.I'm hoping they've managed to hedge out some of these crazy high coal prices of last few months. Also some positive news on group captive status and hopefully some positive re-negotiation of some of loans on more appropriate terms. We shall see - track record has taught me to not have huge expectations, but would be very happy to be proved wrong Jozo
