14/5/2024 11:55 | Very nice MrP. Currently down pretty much what I was up yesterday with yesterdays hero OTB being todays villain. Better to travel than arrive being the adage of the day. | dr biotech
14/5/2024 11:10 | We now have five different roses in flower, all looking pretty good at the moment. | mrphil
14/5/2024 11:06 | Phil, yes, very! This looks good | mrphil
14/5/2024 09:29 | Morning everyone. It's wet. MrP , that's frustrating. | philanderer
14/5/2024 09:08 | Good morning. Was expecting overnight rain but it's only just started. Employment numbers seem to be slowly moving from bad to terrible. A shrinking private sector means public sector growth is unsustainable so it's likely to get worse before it gets better. Also, rapidly falling vacancies also suggest it's likely to get worse. . How can anybody think this economy is doing ok? Over 12m to Q1: Aged over 16 +396k Aged 16-64 +174k Employed -204k Unemployed +103k Inactive +302k 12m to Q4: Public sector +140k Private sector -64k 12m vacancies -188k to 898k 24m vacancies -398k This is about what you might expect when the government decides to have big rises in minimum wage while the MPC thinks that's a problem and keeps rates up. | aleman
14/5/2024 08:32 | Morning All. Bit frustrated with my new boat engineer, first time I have used him after the last chap decided to throw the towel in. Arranged the lift back in February timed to suit his schedule and now he tells me the guy he needs to use for the specific repair I need isn't available until June which is after the boat goes back in the water! He obviously forgot about that job until last week and has now been caught out, but that doesn't help me! So I now either have to keep the boat out of the water for an extra couple of weeks (including the holiday week we had planned) or put up with the fault for another few months. To be fair it hasn't really got any worse since last year so I may just leave it for now, but I just hate this sort of thing when you have been so clear from the start and planned everything meticulously. CURY seems to be the stand out performer so far today although I don't really have enough to make a huge difference overall. | mrphil
14/5/2024 08:26 | Morning Rain got here overnight and it's chucking it down at present,if you belive the long range forecast it's set in for the next week. The markets may be flat but my lot are heavily red at present. | malcolm caton
13/5/2024 17:52 | AA car insurance renewal was ~650 ... a phone call later and settled at ~495. Aviva zero was cheaper but seemed only online operation and Web chat if needed assistance (apart from roadside emergency) .. put off with the webchat idea as a way of comms. | carpingtris
13/5/2024 17:49 | -0.31% folio, [FTSE All-Share -0.24%] BA. -3.3%, PHNX -2.2%, ASY, worst fallers. poor day for some defence stocks and new CFO's SDV +7%, BT.A +3.4%, GSF +2.2%, leading gainers. Clouded over, rain not arrived yet, at least we've had 10 dry days here. Max 21C | blueliner
13/5/2024 17:13 | I'm down -0.249% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.223%) Worst falls: BA. -3.23%, ADM -1.97% and PSON -1.34%. Best rises: BT.A +3.37%, KGF +1.41% and BATS +1.11%. Topped up RKT by 20% this morning. Third time in 3 months. Nice day apart from a little drizzle mid morning. DF | deanforester
13/5/2024 17:06 | -0.1%. Was down more earlier. Another hot one initially but a strengthening wind has lent a fresher feel this evening. I gather we will have rain overnight and a coming week of more changeable weather. I was actually starting to think it was getting too hot this weekend so coming cooler weather should give me more time to adjust and try get some garden jobs done. 22.9C after 1.5C. | aleman
13/5/2024 17:02 | Portfolio -0.24% , mostly red led by AAL turning down BHP's second offer . Best gainer NICL. Much cooler today with mostly high cloud and a stiff breeze 19C. Just about got away with shorts. Painted a ceiling , did one load of washing , out and in. Then a three mile local walk. Eating alone tonight, fish fingers, baked beans and chips , and a couple of glasses of red wine :-) Hope to finish watching BBC's 1987 version of John Le Carre's 'A Perfect Spy' , just episode 7 to watch on the iplayer . Been superb. | philanderer
13/5/2024 16:49 | Nasically flat on day,a very slight blue tinge,Zoo to the rescue after an update, Defence stocks the big drag on figures BA.,BAB,AVON,RR, worst fallers. | malcolm caton
13/5/2024 16:44 | Not so good for my lot today, -0.39% CUSN, SSE & BERI. Not too sure what has upset CUSN but you never know with these tiddlers! The promised rain finally arrived around an hour ago and it's pretty grey and miserable again. Will need to turn the boiler back on for the hot water as there hasn't been enough excess solar for that. | mrphil
13/5/2024 16:43 | Finished up 0.22% More reds than blues (13/11), but a 15% rise in OTB tilted it in my favour. They have their results tomorrow. | dr biotech
13/5/2024 15:45 | I've found this to be an interesting lead indicator in the past, though there have been odd false signals. Having said that, if we have started a bull run, it's actually behind the FTSE100 and 250 instead of being ahead of them like normal. I'm not sure anything has been normal since Covid hit, though. | aleman
13/5/2024 15:34 | No coughing on the bike ride so that's good. Very frustratingly, I got another flat. It blew up for 4 mins then again for 2 mins then had to push the remaining 1.5-2 miles home. That was hard in the midday heat so I'm hoping to have sweat the cold out. Looks like I'm changing the tube on the newer bike tomorrow so I can pick up a new one for the older bike later this week! I only just had time to go for groceries after my delay. SBRY keep sneaking prices up. I paid over £100 again - still not consecutively yet but it feels to be getting closer. I'm wondering what reason they are using for justifying the price rises when the global food commodity index is still bouncing along the bottom (best seen in the table lower down). | aleman
13/5/2024 14:25 | Thought I would just get an update on the largest value gainers in terms of holdings to find that the top 5 are all managed funds as are 6 out of the top 10. In order with largest gainer first:- Jupiter Ecology Saracen Global Income & Growth Liontrust Special Situations HL Special Situations Jupiter Asian Income NG. SSE INVP Axa Framlington Biotech BERI 1 & 3 above are my largest holdings by value, closely followed by SSE, LLOY and NG. | mrphil
13/5/2024 10:13 | Aleman, prime time for tickly eyes, nose & throat with all the fluffy bits floating around in the air from the willows, dandelions etc. My lot are all down slightly at the moment. SSE & RIO most notable fallers but nothing drastic. Good to see they are trying to do something about the throwaway society. every product we have ever produced has been designed to be able to repair it if and when it fails. we recently repaired and refurbished some outside floodlights we originally supplied 28 years ago at less than half the cost of new ones. | mrphil
13/5/2024 10:08 | Morning. A hot sunny weekend here to. Portfolio just in the blue.Defence stocks being hit this am,Don't know why,ZOO update gone down well, which is why I'm in the blue at present. | malcolm caton
13/5/2024 09:55 | Thank, m.j.g.. I thought the stinging eyes and sneezing last week were just hay fever since Mrs A was bad with that but I've had a pretty bad cough over the weekend which was weird, given the the heat. It seems to ease or stop when I go outside so I'm going to do a short bike ride and see if that helps or hinders. | aleman
13/5/2024 09:43 | Morning everyone. Cloudy this morning and I may have been at bit previous puting the shorts on. Mr P sounds like a lovely drive. Portfolio not out of bed yet. | philanderer
13/5/2024 08:49 | I had a cold last week, didn’t last long so hopefully you will recover quickly Aleman | m.j.g
13/5/2024 08:23 | Good morning. How can I have caught a cold in this weather? I've been coughing all weekend and I don't even know anybody else with a cold. Mrs A says there is nothing at her school now. It must have been lovely weather for top-down motoring, MRP. I'll bet there were a lot of smiling folk. Thanks, wllm. | aleman
13/5/2024 08:20 | Forgot to mention, my SIPP ended last week on an all time high in terms of total value, beating the previous one set on 17th Feb 2023. There has been quite a chunk of monthly contributions since then so still a way to go to make up for that. | mrphil |
