19/12/2017 16:58 | Mixed bag. +0.3% BON +6.0%. It was still a chilly day even though sunny all day. A bit of cloud here and there. Frost survived again in the hollows. They keep forecasting too warm. 9C Paul Hudson said at lunch but we had only 5.9C at home. It is holding up so far, though, so a warmer night finally beckons | ![]() aleman

19/12/2017 15:56 | Looks like I may have got my timing right this morning with my SPD sell at 3.791 as it's dropped back again now. | ![]() mrphil
19/12/2017 15:24 | You carry on Aleman, last minute hectic situation here as is often the case in the run-up to the break when clients suddenly panic that they haven't ordered stuff they think they need but that will realistically just sit in a store room until the New Year! | ![]() mrphil
19/12/2017 14:27 | Apologies if it feels like I am hogging the thread. You're all quiet, today. I hope you are all enjoying yourselves! The FT suggests the average US company will see a 10% boost to earnings thanks to Trump tax changes. | ![]() aleman
19/12/2017 14:02 | The boost from a bigger Black Friday in retail has worn off after a couple of weeks and negative comparables have returned. | ![]() aleman

19/12/2017 11:38 | freddie - Greenland sea ice extends to just 30 nautical miles short of Iceland at the moment. It seems to be closing the gap again after a recent pull-back for a few days. (2nd chart) | ![]() aleman
19/12/2017 11:15 | Bitcoin looks to be down about 7% on that EU regulation news and a Korean exchange going bust and its investors losing money. Not really an unusual fall for Bitcoin, though, when you consider the size of daily rises. You have to look well down the list of cryptocurrencies to find any that have not fallen. Tether is the biggest to still be up. I wonder why the news has not bothered it. | ![]() aleman
19/12/2017 11:09 | Trump is about to screw his voters. His income tax cuts benefit rich a lot and poor only a little - but the hole it creates in government finances will create either more borrowing and inflation down the line, or more non-income tax increases, and either will hit everyone. So, the poor are getting minimal compensation now for the hardships to come. Yet another president is not doing what he claimed he would when voted in. (Scroll down for tax cut histograms) Bond yields are largely unaffected so far, which should be worrying for shares that are rising. It suggests the rise will not be maintained. The US 2-10 differential is near recent lows at 0.56%. Good times ahead would normally show more like 1.5%. Bonds are indicating a slowing economy, which won't help the $140bn per year hole that Trump is about to blow in the already-growing US deficit. | ![]() aleman
19/12/2017 10:41 | The FTSE100 jumped just when it needed to but it needs to create a new high if it is going to make progress. Otherwise, it is lingering too near its 200-day average that has lost steam. | ![]() aleman
19/12/2017 10:29 | Sold my remaining SPD today, they have served me very well. | ![]() mrphil
19/12/2017 10:18 | -4°C this morning, with a nice sunrise. Very icy underfoot. Has the Santa rally begun? I see that the FTSE100 has touched its all time closing high of 7562 earlier today, but fell back. Not sure what the all-time intra-day high was. Could be an interesting day. 19/12/2017 10:01 | Morning all, a very quiet start for me today with very little movement on my stocks. The temperatures dropped rapidly yesterday and it was very slippy on the way home. Combined with overnight fog, it made this morning's school run a chore. The fog is clearing now and the sun seems to be making a desperate attempt to shine through, fingers crossed. :-) | ![]() hyden
19/12/2017 09:50 | I omitted the word try, didn't I? Road safety measures almost always make people drive more dangerously. People drive faster with airbags. Cycle lanes are dangerous because cars give less room to cyclists when they have a cycle lane painted and cycle lanes tend to be full of junk that causes punctures so some cyclists try avoid using them. Too many road signs and markings confuse drivers and take their concentration off pedestrians and cyclists. Speed humps damage cars and are bad for ambulances and casue accidents in snow and frost. 20mph limits are mostly unreasonable and should have been 25mph. Some motorway 70mph limits should be 80mph. Some urban 30mph limits should be 35mph. We just need sensible speed limits and enforce them rigidly with mobile speed guns. Fines should pay only for mobile speed traps and not be used as a tax to fund councils' other activities. That way, you get the right numbers of speed checks for the number of people not sticking to limits rather than traps where councils just milk it for revenue so it encourages them to maintain an unreasonable limit. Slowing traffic unnecessarily to make money just makes people drive worse to catch up and cause more accidents elsewhere. There is a 55mph limit on motorway roadworks near Leeds. It is far less frustrating. Anybody else seen any more sensible speed limits coming out? | ![]() aleman

19/12/2017 09:19 | A lot of frost about again this morning although the thermometer only read a low 0.0C. We had a touch of drizzle on frozen ground again so more dodgy road and paths. No.1 is at home with fever, now, so that completes the trio. No.3 is better but has stopped talking and just screams all the time to try get what he wants. Mrs A and I can't wait for Friday for holidays to start so we can get some rest. | ![]() aleman
19/12/2017 09:11 | This is an interesting report. If it's anything like a local road around here, it is definitely much more dangerous since they placed the 20 MPH restriction, but mainly due to the fact they added those ridiculous square road humps so drivers now have to concentrate on lining up their wheels to minimise damage to their vehicles rather than worry about what pedestrians are doing. There have definitely been more injuries since it was introduced, but then there was not a single reported case before! | ![]() mrphil
19/12/2017 09:08 | Etherium, Bitcoin Cash and Ripple have all made up plenty of ground on Bitcoin this week in terms of market cap. Bitcoin Cash's transaction cost is about 20 cents. | ![]() aleman
19/12/2017 08:44 | Morning All. A very chilly -0.7°C first thing this morning, glad I remembered to set the heating on the Leaf! This cryptocurrency stuff seems a bit of a nightmare! | ![]() mrphil |
