No idea (how far back you go) DD - but what I would say is that three months ago it didn't look like closing the gap to £54 and it did and £52 is pretty close by.

And of course the inverse holds so there is a gap at £64 to fill now!

Toffeeman,No particular reason, just a general comment, not a TA but I'm sure that there are likely to be gaps pre Oct 2013 (£52), so how far back do you go and when do other technical signals indicate much greater price support which negates the possibility of filling gaps to the downside?.DD

I've never read so much dross in my life. Why do potential investors think that by spending their lives posting negative comments on a BB will influence the share price? Muppets.

Grow up lads and lasses and look at the fundamentals of the company.

NEXT are a profitable company who as others have pointed out have historically been over cautious in their predictions and subsequently over delivered.

Thanks for your thoughts DD. Too many doomsayers about. Sure the share price has fallen, but how many other retailers are there on the FTSE with op margins of over 17%. Good luck with what you decide to do.

Agree imranawan.Had these on my watchlist for over three years but felt they were a tad overpriced.......not now though but will wait a bit longer. With 7% free cash flow yield (divi' splits buy backs) and a PE of 12 there's a decent profit to be made here IMV. Even if you take the mid point of their profit before tax (£820m) forecast, that's an eps of 437p, even at a PE of 14 that's a target price of about £61, potential 15% uplift minimum (22% with fcf yield of 7%).Forget those that keep banging on about bricks and mortar being dead, IMV bricks and mortar will always have a significant place in the retail sector, their margins are significantly better. Asos profit before tax about 4% of sales, Next (excluding directory/online) about 17%.Next is going to be around for a long long time.DD

The trend is the trend and the numbers are the numbers. There is no other way out of this current momentum at present. The trend has changed today and all indicative charts point towards a lower low before we re stabilise. Many of the old guard who have worked at next have been here for over two decades and they have only known an upward trajectory and a mantra of 'we are the greatest'.....?This company has hit its 25 year peak and the next 14 months point towards a downward slide.IMO I would watch for the RNS that indicates that SW is leaving to pursue his career in politics.....it's coming!

Have you looked at the RSI? Its around 20.

They're still making a profit, as least the last time I looked and its now on a PE of under 12 and pays a divi. They bought back almost £5m of shares today, and EPS should grow at the mid point of their guidance.

R Ball - do you think they're going bust? I'd be interested to get your thoughts.

If you believe the comments on this BB and the share price reaction you'd think they'd cut their divi and breached their banking covenants.

Next have been the best managed retailer on the FTSE - so if you think they're in trouble good help the rest of them.

Careful

Normally I agree that share buybacks are irrational but might I suggest you look at:

h??p://www.hollandadvisors.co.uk/cms/resources/lord-wolfsons-wisdom-on-share-buybacks.pdf

This explains it rather nicely and logically.

Shocking Collapse here, but it has been on the cards for the last year. Just couldn't continue with growth or compete with etailers. These old school bricks & mortar outfits have had their day now as the smart money shifts to pure online plays.

Next tried the usual tactic of buying back their own shares on friday but it did not work this time.

an incredible tactic.
buy back shares, reduce shares in circulation by running down net assets to very low levels.
this increases EPS and makes PE look much better than it really is.

but this trick has run its course.
..why did not spot this share price trickery.
it burned many shorters.

Almost no asset backing left in the company.
